Grateful
Woman’s Place UK has an open letter protesting the violent threat against Carmen Calvo.
WPUK has joined with 13 other organisations to call on all the major political party leaders in the UK to condemn the violent threat made against the Spanish Deputy Prime Minister, Carmen Calvo.
An effigy of Calvo was found suspended from a tree in the Plaza 8 de Marzo in Santiago de Compostela. The location is significant because of its connection with International Women’s Day. It was reported in a newspaper article that she was targeted because of her criticism of proposed new legislation known as ‘Trans Law’.
This latest incident marks an escalation in the targeting of high-profile Spanish feminists who dare to defend sex-based rights, such as Amelia Valcarcel, Lidia Falcon and Angeles Alvares.
I wonder if that’s why Sally Hines made this incorrect assertion:
Yeah, right, it’s so right wing to insist that women are people equivalent to other people and deserve to be free from rape, domestic violence, and discrimination. Yeah, that’s what Limbaugh always said, amirite?
One of trans activisms Big Lies. By smearing gender critical feminists with this, they’re hoping to avoid debate, as well as convince “progressive” fence sitters to ignore anything that comes out of the GC camp.
Trans activism does seem to rely upon a lot of Big Lies:
TWAW
Nobody is erasing sex!
“All we want to do is pee!”
Sex is “assigned” at birth.
Lesbians can have penises.
I’m sure I’ve missed a lot. After all, there are so many.
Invent an association with the right-wing: insinuate guilt by (invented…shhh) association: declare moral victory.
But why just associate the opposition with the right-wing? Go big, go as far to the right as possible. It’s easy, just make the claim that TERFs deny trans the right to exist then throw in something about TERFs actively promoting trans genocide. Who famously engaged in genocide? Hey Presto! If you oppose trans ideology then you are a literal Nazi.
@AoS, I’ve experienced precisely this line of thinking when engaged in argument with a TW on Facebook, who declared that I, due to wishing that sex segregated facilities be maintained for the safety, privacy and dignity of women, was clearly, exactly the same kind of collaborator who would have “pinned the pink triangle on my chest in Germany in WW2”.
Arcadia, the trans genocidal, literal Naziism of TERFs is a depressingly common theme with certain FTB bloggers and commenters, the very same people who once-upon-a-time viewed any argument that made the same comparison as proof that the person making the argument had no valid point to make. It’s almost as though they have a collective, selective amnesia about ever quoting Godwin’s Law and expressing disgust that anybody would stoop so low as to bring Naziism into a debate.
AoS, they apparently (or at least PZ) also have selective amnesia about having once said “listen to the woman; if she says it’s sexist, it is”. I never agreed with that, because the obvious question then becomes “which woman?” since we do not all agree on what is and isn’t sexist. But it is irony now to hear PZ dismissing any woman who does not espouse the position that TWAW and hold that the positions taken by many, if not most, TAs are inherently misogynistic.
And of course there was “Guys, don’t do that”. That’s now “Cisguys, don’t do that”.
