Character building
England manager Gareth Southgate said the racist abuse aimed at Marcus Rashford, Jadon Sancho and Bukayo Saka after the Euro 2020 final defeat by Italy was “unforgivable”.
Prime Minister Boris Johnson and the Football Association also condemned it.
All three players missed penalties in the 3-2 shootout loss and were targeted on social media after the game.
Patriotism innit.
Updating to add:
When I was a ref for basketball games, players aged 9-10, we read a statement before each game about the need for sportsmanship among parents and fans. We had the authority to boot any offending parent from the gym if necessary.
We never had to use it, and it made the game so much more fun for the players. Perhaps those football fans need a pre-game speech?
