I had to read the tweets several times to make absolutely sure they said what they said. “Top-class epistemology” wasn’t…. exactly the way I phrased the response in my head, but let’s go with that ;)
Tim, DM = Direct Messages. On Twitter, you can send private messages called DMs to other users. Maugham was making a creepy double entendre which I’m sure was wonderfully validating for faye (assuming faye isn’t as put off by creepy old men as everyone else) but was hugely insulting to every demographic including trans women.
Maugham was pretending that faye looked indistinguishable from a woman because women are made of hair/makeup/lighting. He was saying that made faye worthy of his attention. He was saying that trans women who don’t pass to his satisfaction are not worthy of it. And he was saying that he feels perfectly entitled to act in a creepy fashion toward both women and trans women, providing they make sufficient effort to be attractive to him. And, of course, he was doing it all for woke points in the first place. He is heterosexual, married, twice or more times faye’s age and I doubt very much that he would really consider faye as a romantic and/or sexual partner.
There were few lows he didn’t hit with that one tweet.
I wonder if he thinks it works for climate change, too.
If these brands know what the future holds, how come I see so many of them in clearance bins?
lol
Good question.

Are you going to watch it with a glass of New Coke and some Watermelon Oreos ? ;)
We may as well repeat the infamous Joylon Maugham moment here:

‘resisting the temptation to slide into your DMs, for the moment at least.’ Creepy.
Cloudy, stop reminding me of that!
I didn’t want to have to think about JoMo sliding in and out of people’s DM’s then and I don’t want to think about it now.
Sorry to bother you, Mostly Cloudy & latsot, but I am very ignorant: what on earth (or elsewhere) does ‘DMs’ stand for?

Latsot, thank you very much. Yes, what a creep JM is.
And, as you can tell (but I’ll underline it anyway), that tweet became an instant celebrity, and the phrase “slide into your DMs” a meme.
