Good grief. Next they’ll be saying because she’s young and attractive, she shouldn’t be taken seriously. Or, that because she comes from a poor background she shouldn’t wear nice clothes now that she’s in Congress, because that would make her fake. Or, that she never came from that poor a background anyway.
I’m sure AOC is not perfect (none of us are), but I’d have her as my representative over any GOP member of Congress in a heartbeat. I bet she’d be an interesting, pleasant and fun person to have a coffee or drink with too.
There was that time when conservatives started circulating a music video or short film from her college days where she’s dancing. General reaction was “yeah, she looks good and seems to be having fun, what’s the problem?”
I have also seen a fair bit of “she’s just a bartender, who the hell is she to be a member of Congress?” This from the same people who decry “elites.”
To her credit, AOC has refused to play their silly games. She knows she’s going to get bashed for whatever she does. If she’s “poor,” then she isn’t good enough to be in Congress or shouldn’t be passing laws to tax or regulate businesses. If she’s “rich,” then she’s a hypocrite, because socialists are supposed to give all their money away to charity and dress in rags I guess.
Wait, wait, wait…. So the main proponent of the New Green Deal… drives an electric car? Shock! Horror! The hypocrisy! No, wait, just the opposite of that. (I’m actually more disturbed by the revelation that she shops at Whole Foods, since they are not really the progressive Lefty paragon they like to portray themselves as, particularly on economic issues. But then, I’m not exactly hunting out small farmer’s markets, either, so I can hardly blame her for shopping where she likes.)
The significance of the parking scandal remains to be seen. At the very least, it could undermine Ocasio-Cortez’s credibility in her ongoing quest to transform the United States into a socialist paradise. Her policy adviser, Dan Riffle, wants to abolish billionaires, yet the congresswoman appears to enjoy consuming the products of their capitalist ingenuity. Tesla, for example, is run by a billionaire (Elon Musk), as is Whole Foods (Jeff Bezos).
I’d say the whole lot of them might as well pack up and go home. This parking scandal will sink the bloody lot of them. Has anyone ever heard the like of it; anywhere? In the Universe?
Whole Foods is terrible on labor issues, but I don’t know of any grocery chains that are fabulous on labor issues, and driving all over town isn’t great either (even in a Tesla) plus she has a few demands on her time, so.
Meanwhile Jared Kushner just took a trip to Dubai or somewhere and cost the taxpayer a quarter of a million for Secret Service because Trump awarded himself & relatives & even some staffers six months of Secret Service AFTER he had to hand over the keys.
Does she drive the Tesla? Or does the Tesla drive her? [Cue ominous music; vaguely profound look]
Ophelia,
By law, former presidents and their spouses get Secret Service protection for life; that extends to their children until they’re 16. Granted, Jared is just a son-in-law, but I expect his protection will end on his sixteenth birthday.
I drive a Ford. My only defense is the question: Are there any car companies NOT owned by murderers? GM? LOL. VW? hahahahhahahha. Did the Japanese companies exist back in WWII? Even safe, green boring Volvo is now…owned by the genocidal ChiComs. (Geely) :)

She should drive a cheap Ford. Because there have never been any billionaires in the Ford family. (Or Nazis for that matter.)

Or murderous strikebreakers.
