Been there, seen that
A former governor of California, a Republican, says what he thinks of the attempted insurrection or coup the other day.
He grew up in Austria in the wake of WW2. He knows what Kristallnacht was.
It’s surprisingly powerful.
[Updating to add: I forgot to warn about the music. I did mean to. It’s very annoying.]
Powerful speech; rather insulting to add that horrible muzak to it.
I’ve never been a fan, but that…I watched the whole thing. Thanks.
I WAS a fan up until the Republican Governor bit. Gave up on him after that, but this clip shows that there may still be a little skerrick of integrity left in the GOP.
But why did he remain shtum for so long?
It was a powerful and I’m sure heartfelt (though carefully scripted) message. The music was jarring – but that’s a quibble.
Roj, in fairness to the Governator, he and Trump have made their mutual lack of fondness for each other clear over a long period. I’ve never been a fan of Republican politics*, but Schwarzenegger has tended to be at the moderate end of that spectrum.
*I’m fiscally fairly conservative, but I believe strongly in a place for government in the life of society and a robust and inclusive social safety net, while being a proponent for minimising the number of laws criminalising ordinary life as much as possible and preserving reasonable free speech (another topic altogether and a tough one). It’s left me fairly consistently voting for left of centre parties in NZ, albeit not comfortable with some of their policies. I’ve never been able to understand why there were decent people who were Republican because they believed in Small Government and Fiscal Responsibility, when the GOP were so blatantly hypocrites on both of those while also being pretty disgusting on social issues and clearly interested in power for its own sake. It’s been like that all my political life, which must amount to 45 years or so now.
I do recall early on Arnold offering to take over the presidency so that “people could sleep easily in their beds again”… Whatever else the former governor is, he’s not with the enablers or the “concerned ones”.
People that put an asterisk in their post with no corresponding footnote belong in editing jail, Rob.

Holms, absolutely. I deserve punishment. Force me to sit in your lounge matching Australian TV while drinking your best Scotch.
Insert matching asterisk in front of “I’m…”. Too late now, but consider it a virtual edit. Put it down to my still shocked and outraged state of mind at events in the US for the last few
daysweeksmonths. Okay, five years. Longer?
