Why it matters
Someone who probably knows what he’s talking about explains why Trump’s tweet about the virus was so terrible.
Because it’s not “very much under control,” right?
But which is more important, telling the truth so that we can try to prepare, or making Trump look as if he’s doing his job? The question answers itself.
What’s more important – 300 million people, or Trump? Trump, of course, every time. His reputation matters far more than our survival.
Making America great again.
My expectation is that the death rate from COVID-19 will be significantly higher in the United States than in other developed countries, and the economic damage caused by the pandemic will be much more severe as well. We are a nation made fragile by our lack of a social safety net, our fractured families, and our poor access to health care.
Many people in the US lack access to health care, which means the converse – that health care lacks access to many people in the US. People will get sick, and infect others, and die, without any medical interaction, because people who can’t afford to go to the hospital will avoid it.
Our government has been bled thin and stocked with temporary yes-men incompetent to perform their functions. Nobody dares contradict the clown in charge, lest they be fired. Reality on the ground will be horrifying before the government reacts. Have you seen the lines in rural Kentucky to get free dental care? Imagine those, but everybody is coughing. Tent hospitals in fields. Quarantined towns. Mass graves. Abandoned children.
And the reich-wing will carry on as before. Televangelists will go on the boob tube to tell us it’s GAWD’s judgment on the wicked. Free health care? The devil’s work.
And when – not ‘if’ – the virus starts to spread in the U.S. Pres. Bonespurs will be raging about how HE had it under control but the Dem’s brought it in deliberately to make HIM look bad.
Acolyte, this thing is coming fast. Trumpski will still be in office when the pandemic hits America, maybe this summer, maybe sooner.
So long as the sick and dead receive no healthcare, they won’t generate embarrassing statistics either. A win all ’round in Trump terms.
Meanwhile, <a href="https://www.cnn.com/2020/02/23/politics/mick-mulvaney-donald-trump-india-chief-of-staff/index.html?fbclid=IwAR24Ep_ZaIgLOKdCZhA9LWyFc-rz56Rj8W4Oas3BSbpXtdtyl_CBpXh1Sxw"Mick Mulvaney was kicked off the trip to India because he had a cold.
And Trump wants to pay for fighting the virus by cutting heating aid for the poor.
Apologies for the borked link.
