Of all the people in all the world there is probably just one person who has the very least right to ask “how did we get here?” to what he calls “the age of impeachment.” Who is that one person?
This is the second impeachment in just over twenty years.
So, what is the appropriate rate, Mr. Starr? (And while I’ve got your attention, why were Clinton’s affairs at all relevant to the Whitewater investigation?)
The appropriate rate is one or two per Democratic presidential administrations. Any more and that is just too much. In short, any impeachment during the reign of a Republican president is just plain too much.
Is this the same Ken Starr who was investigating what turned out to be a perfectly legal real estate deal; and when he couldn’t pin any illegal behaviour on Clinton he managed to catch him out in lying/splitting hairs about an irrelevant but embarrassing affair?
Worth noting that when Starr and his team heard rumours about the affair they had Monica picked up by agents and taken to a room where she was then threatened with possible repercussions unless she told them details of the affair. They then used Clinton’s “I did not have sex…” answer to allege lying under oath and obstruction. which formed the basis of his impeachment. Both a long way from the original alleged criminal activity.
If this was to happen now and you replaced Clinton with Trump, I can imagine the GOP saying ‘crime? What crime?’ and Trump, would just say, ‘Sure I grabbed her by the pussy, so what?’ That would be the end of it.
Starr should die of shame, closely followed by Kavanaugh, who was sitting right behind him in photos from the era.
