We have far too many men who see a strong woman, one who refuses to bow to their lies and threats, as a real threat to their power; and thus feel that they must do everything they can to put her in her place.
They hate the fact that women are the only ones who can give birth; and they hate the fact that they were all grown and birthed by women, and that women attempted to civilise them when they were young. It makes them fear us ever having that power over them when they are grown up, and so they hate us.
I have been fortunate in that I have met very, very few men even remotely like that. The ones who just couldn’t see women as equals tended towards a more ‘benign sexism’ than outright misogyny; at least in public. Who knows what they would have been, or indeed are, like online?
Yeah, Nullius, it’s like Stockholm Syndrome. But I suspect it comes from that place that says “we must care about others”, and for some reason, they interpret that in the worst way possible…throwing other women under the bus.
You’re probably right about that. The conditioned imperative toward care is quite strong. Like, “be nice” doesn’t have much impact on men. But on women?
And then we add in the part where identity protecting cognition comes in. As in when a Wokey says horrible things to JKR because we have to respect and support and listen to trans people—then a transwoman comes in to say, “Stop that.” To which the Wokey says, “I don’t respect you or anything you do, and your internalized transphobia makes me sick. But I’ll fight for you, whether you will or not. Peace!” [actual thing I saw]
Reread Dworkin’s essay on Right Wing Women. What the trans cult boosterwomen are doing now is almost exactly what the right wing women Dworkin wrote about. Trying to find a way to appease men and be safe themselves while throwing other women under the bus because THOSE women are too evil/stupid/uppity to know that only the right wing woman way is the way.

Or they don’t even see her as a threat to their power, they just hate her, because hatred of women is like the air we breathe.

It’s the women hurling the abuse who bamboozle me, especially the overtly sexist abuse.
