Thanks Milwaukee
Biden’s won Wisconsin. We’re not dead yet.
The announcement from Wisconsin aligns with the Biden campaign’s statements that they are optimistic the race is moving in their direction. Biden’s electoral vote count is now up to 248, meaning he will win the election if he can maintain his leads in Nevada and Michigan.
Trump is demanding a recount but it’s unlikely to make a difference.
Nevada says it will update its count tomorrow. That’s fine, you guys take your time, we’re in no hurry.
That would be this township:
And meanwhile, in Minnesota:
Turns out that Mayor Novak had endorsed Trump, and supported mining (the article doesn’t specify what kind of mining, but there are a lot of iron ore mines in the area).
Michigan hasn’t been called yet, but it sure appears that Biden is well on his way to taking it. Maybe we’ll know tonight.
Jesus, Biden won Michigan, and if he wins Nevada and Arizona, which is likely, he won’t need fucking Pennsylvania and their confederate flag waving assholes. Maybe some hope yet. :)
This is what gets me. I see so many Confederate flags in Nebraska – which was not a Confederate state. Of course, this isn’t really about supporting state’s rights, is it? We know better.
When I was living in Oklahoma, I almost never saw a Confederate flag; unless I went into my older brother’s bedroom (which I never did because he didn’t pick it up and it smelled like the swamp creature lived there), I didn’t see Confederate flags. I’ve only been gone about 15 years, and the flags are prominent now. I’m sure my brother is very proud.
I remember when I was in high school history, and my teachers would take great pains to separate Oklahoma from the south of the Civil War. Not too hard; Oklahoma wasn’t a state yet, and still belonged to the Native Americans. The relationship between Oklahoma and the south is complicated, but that’s actually the case with Oklahoma and everyplace, since it’s sort of one of those transition states that isn’t fish nor fowl nor good red herring. It isn’t south, north, east, west, or midwest. It is where everything meets…and that is scary. Because for some reason, I think they got the worst of all of it. I doubt high school history teachers are taking so much trouble to disassociate from the south these days.
Or take West Virginia, that owes its existence to the ACW as far as I know and was the birthplace of the American labor movement…
Too many Americans are absolute shite.
Ikn, yes I took a drive up to upstste New York a few years ago, and I was surprised to see so many more confederate battle flags when I drove through Pennsylvania than I ever saw in the rural parts of Georgia and North Carolina combined (I won’t get into S.C. ;)). And right again, for them it’s not about “heritage”, it’s a much more sinister message they are conveying up there. I don’t know much about Oklahoma on that front, but I did meet my fair share of confederate flag waving assholes in California, of all places. The further out in the boondocks you get, the worse it is. Sheer ignorance if you ask me.
Can’t remember if I told this story already, but what the heck. Some years ago I was walking through a small tourist town in rural England and saw a Confederate flag in a window. I walked by, then walked back to take a picture of it. While I was doing that a man ran out the door of the building shouting ‘do you think that’s racist? Really? Do you think that’s racist?’ I wasn’t interested in engaging, but I did say ‘yes, I think it’s racist’ and walked away, while he shouted stuff about ‘history’ and ‘heritage’ at my back. Honestly, no one really believes any of that. It’s like ‘Karens’ and misogyny–we all understand what you’re actually communicating.
