Still negative function
The White House has a transcript of yesterday’s car crash in the rose garden, the one where Trump was unable to read a particular word in his prepared Remarks. Here is that passage:
To unleash the full power of the federal government in this effort, today I am officially declaring a national emergency. Two very big words. The action I am taking will open up access to up to $50 billion of very importantly — very important and a large amount of money for states and territories and localities in our shared fight against this disease.
The glitch is clear but the transcript still tidies it up a little. How it actually went was:
of…very importantly…very important anttf…a very large amount…
Each ellipse is a pause where he struggles to figure out what to say when he can’t read the word and isn’t sure how to improvise. The transcript represents “very important anttf…a very large amount” as the smoother (but still incoherent) “very important and a very large amount” but it really was the first and not the second. It was an extraordinary breakdown of basic function.
I still want to know what the impossible word was.
These are symptoms of an underlying health condition, and he’s 73 too, very risky, very very risky. Come on Donald, go get tested, it’s just a swab you big baby. Do it for The American People.
twiliter, not to take the side of the Donald, and I won’t, but I do sort of understand. If you don’t get tested, and you don’t have symptoms, you can rest easily that you don’t have it. Kind of like why I put off having a pregnancy test for long enough that I had to go to another state for an abortion because the state I was living in had very short windows.
I was under the impression that health officials were recommending getting tested only if you have symptoms. It’s why Trudeau isn’t getting tested despite his wife having the virus. Test kits are unfortunately in limited supply.
ikn, yes I’m mostly joking. I’m not going to get tested either, but also I’m not worried about going out in public because of this, or the flu, and I’m not going to stop driving because of traffic fatalities. I was just thinking germophobe Trump and the frenzied media could use some mocking…
Sackbut – well recommended for reasons of scarcity, yes, but not for reasons of medical prudence. Also the “don’t get tested unless you have symptoms” advice goes with “but self-quarantine.” Trump is not only not self-quarantining, he’s busily shaking everyone’s hand and breathing into everyone’s face.
The latest says that he did get tested, and the results reportedly take at least 24 hours. Of course any quarantine will subject us all to a prolonged Trump twitter storm, like he needs more time for that nonsense.
My theory – activates.
