Definition of Trans Rights Activist — an anti-feminist hate group. Members can be identified by the use of the terms ‘transphobic’, ‘TERF’, ‘cis’, and can be found disrupting feminist events, or spouting hateful rhetoric against legitimate feminists on social media and elsewhere (when allowed by the ignorant TRA sympathizers who don’t know the what a hate group is), and engaging in silencing, deplatforming, or banning from social media, the women (and men) who believe that only biological women are women.
More abuse of women by men, it’s appalling and needs to be stopped, before it becomes more violent.
From a source talking primarily about UK law regarding smoke bombs and flares and football / soccer grounds, there is also a paragraph discussing smoke bombs in general.
Is it an offence for an adult to have a firework in their possession if they are not going to a match?
No, it is not illegal for a person over 18 years to possess a firework, flare or smoke bomb, but it is illegal for a person over 18 years to let off the firework, flare or smoke bomb in a public place. A person over the age of 18 cannot legally be arrested for being in possession of a firework, flare or smoke bomb, other than when entering or attempting to enter a football match. For instance, the arrest of a football fan at a service station for possession of a smoke bomb in their car is an unlawful arrest unless the fan admits to the police officer that they intended to take the firework, flare or smoke bomb into the football ground later that day.
Yes, they are. Can you use it anywhere? No, you can’t. Are kitchen knives legal in the UK? Yes, they are. Can you openly carry one on the high street? Of course, you can’t. Can you carry a kitchen knife in a bag in the high street (still in its packaging)? No problem. What about a big sharp knife in your backpack with no packaging?… Well, that’s a whole different deal.
…
It’s not illegal to buy them, it’s not illegal to use them, provided you’re over 18, you can pull that pin. Just use them on your own land or seek permission. If you cause panic or a disturbance then you most certainly will be breaking a law, so you must use discretion. If you use common sense and follow the instructions provided with the product, your experience will be so much better.
I wonder if police will have a thing or two to say about this. And if they don’t, it throws their other actions into sharp relief – standing by and permitting smoke flares as an intimidation tactic, while scolding people for tweets.
Actually, history has a term for it: fascism. Nascent, but its protagonists work to make it ever more violent and outrageous, and to benefit thereby.
One consolation: it can never become a mass movement on its own; its cause is too minority. So it will be casting round for allies, portraying its own violence as in the cause of liberty and social progress. It might even find some, particularly among the lumpen-left and those inclined to keep women ‘in their place’. It could also occur to them to rally such allies by joining in attacks on those they see as ‘conservative’ in terms of what they are against.
What the hell are the TRAs thinking? My guess: they’ve gone into “Punch a Nazi” Mode. They’re the good guys, you see — and the Other Side consists of the kind of people who don’t need motivations or conditions to explain them because they’re Bad People. The thinking goes that if the women in that room in Edinburgh weren’t Terfs, they’d be Nazis or something equally bad.
I’ve been on several atheist websites where discussions of “transphobes ” took place and the general consensus was that such people were motivated by one thing: hate. Very pure and simple. That trans women were women (and trans men were men) was such an obvious scientific fact that there was no legitimate possibility that anyone could disagree in good faith. And what transphobes wanted to do was eliminate trans people. Drive them underground, reduce them to subhuman, and, eventually, kill them. And those who were trans only fed the fire.
Wait. Now, it’s a smoke bomb. Soon I suspect it will be real ones. The TRAs look to me like they’re very close to going into what’s called a “forward panic,” the tipping point where the individual members and their capacity to make individual choices disappear into a mob and the mob gets violent. They’re going to Punch Nazis. Enough is enough.
Sastra, I saw the connection between punch a Nazi and beating up TERFs made some time ago. I think it was on PZ’s site. So, yeah, definitely they believe attacking a TERF is punching a Nazi.
Yes, this marks a progression from language and symbols of violence – baseballs bats in a display case – to real enactment of …not quite violence yet, but rather acts intended to create a fear of impending violence.
Meanwhile, I wonder what excuses we might see popping up over at FTB…

I stopped reading FTB. My blood pressure isn’t that high, but why push it?
