She lacked sympathy with African Americans
It’s infuriating but it’s also depressing. The Trump campaign and Cambridge Analytica persuaded black voters in swing states that Trump would be preferable to Clinton. That’s worked out well.
Donald Trump’s 2016 US presidential election campaign has been accused of actively seeking to deter 3.5 million black Americans in battleground states from voting by deliberately targeting them with negative Hillary Clinton ads on Facebook.
By “negative Hillary Clinton ads” they mean “dishonest disparaging” Clinton ads.
According to the investigation, the Trump campaign’s goal was to dissuade them from backing the Democrat entirely, by targeting them with “dark adverts” on their Facebook feeds, which heavily attacked Clinton and, in some cases, argued she lacked sympathy with African Americans.
Unlike Trump, who has all the sympathy in the world, along with understanding and knowledge and a long history of concern and involvement.
The effort is said to have been devised in part by Cambridge Analytica, the notorious election consultant that ceased trading last year following revelations that it used dirty tricks to help win elections around the world and had gained unauthorised access to tens of millions of Facebook profiles.
The whole thing is a criminal enterprise, and here we are.
Dammit, Ophelia, you owe me a new sarcasm meter. The old one is just an unrecognisable heap of melted slag.
PS. No, it’s okay actually. I actually enjoyed watching it burn.
Heh.
Sometimes people are just gullible and stupid. Anyone who can be persuaded by such tactics at this point can’t be salvaged. You can’t fight that even as someone is taking advantage of them.
Unfortunately, the ads worked not by declaring Trump to be better for the black community, but rather simply by getting people of color to decide they had no good option in that race. And Hillary was, like most centrist Democrats, pretty awful on actual issues, as it’s assumed that minority and oppressed communities simply have no better alternative. But it’s very hard to get folks to get excited about, and to make the effort to vote for, the lesser of two evils. And that’s how Trump won–the Democrats sought so hard to not offend anyone that they inspired no one, while Trump was able to win with roughly the same vote tally Romney lost with.
Biden, of course, is cut from pretty much exactly the same mold, which worries me immensely. At least he didn’t pull a Kaine, selecting a running mate who might actually make a splash, and indicate he’s listening to something other than just other old white guys.
Yes, the fact that Biden is the not-Trump candidate worries (and infuriates) me immensely too. Watching a few minutes of the debate only underlined that. He is SUCH a feeble pathetic dud offering for such a horrific emergency.
