Not only annoying but suspect
This is so infuriating.
Oh no, she’s too exact! She’s too good at talking about what she’s talking about and not something else! (Flowers? Babies? Baby flowers?) She’s too competent! Ewwwwwwwwwww. Women like that are gross, and we’re suspicious of them, because they might just find something better to do than flatter and placate us. In short they’re bitches.
When men do anger at work they’re seen as authoritative and in control; when women do anger at work they’re seen as bitches and ballbusters.
It would be nice if male news personalities didn’t casually endorse that double standard.
Yes, they said the same thing about Elizabeth Warren. She’s too much on topic. She’s cold. She’s efficient. She’s…haughty.
Get over it, guys. Women have brains, and know how to use them. We’re not there for your pleasure, or to make you a sandwich.
Seriously, one needn’t look too deeply to figure out why Clinton lost the election: misogyny. All the other reasons are just anecdotes.
He forgot shrill.
Hillary Clinton: “I have a lot of experience with these issues. I worked on…”
Media: “Ugh! So haughty and arrogant!”
Elizabeth Warren: “You see, the problem with bank regulation currently is….”
Media: “Ugh! Such a schoolmarm!”
Donald J. Trump: “I know more about the military than the generals. Nobody knows more about trade than me. I’m the greatest negotiator ever. I just naturally understand medicine better than the doctors because my uncle went to MIT.”
Media: “You know, he just knows how to communicate to regular people! He’s not elitist like the Democrats!”
Arrgghh! All too true!
We all know this of course, but men who are like HRC or EW get described as focussed, dedicated, efficient, powerful, intelligent, knowledgeable, impressive etc etc.
It’s such a shame. It’s also infuriating, sickening and so common that we struggle to even notice it, let alone get upset about it unless shoved in our faces.
It’s the hypocrisy as well. Back in 2016, the mantra was “We want to vote for a woman, just not this woman. If only Elizabeth Warren had run!”
Fastforward 4 years and they were shameless in their disdain for Warren.
Exactly Claire. We need a woman other than Hillary. We need someone who focuses on issues and solutions, not personalities. We need someone who hasn’t called people names. Warren would be good, if only Warren would run.
Warren runs…
Too much of a policy wonk, too cold, not natural enough, too old, too white.
