According to an exclusive report from Fox News, Rep. Devin Nunes (R-CA) is threatening to take action against Intelligence Community Inspector General Michael Atkinson over his handling of the whistleblower’s complaint, giving him until February 14 to comply with congressional requests for documents.
“I will be referring this matter for investigation by the Department of Justice if you once again refuse to comply,” Nunes wrote in a letter.
It’s my understanding that we have laws governing this – laws that protect whistleblowers so that they won’t be too afraid to blow the whistle. Nunes appears to be breaking laws.
Is the Trump Adminstration made up entirely of people who eagerly went on to administer what they knew and thought were lethal voltages in the Milgram experiment? Was there some specific job placement notice that brought really shitty, evil-minded goons to work for him, or was this just a matter of mutual attraction? Dirtbag magnetism?
And yet when the impeachment investigation requested documents or testimony from Trump Regime officials they were stonewalled.
Maybe Atkinson should claim “Executive Privilege.”
Or inform Nooner that he doesn’t have the clearance to “unbundle” the documents Nooner wants from further incriminating evidence that the impeachment investigation requested.
Or say “We cannot release any classified documents to Devin Nunes, whose repeated violations of proper handling regulations indicate he is a security risk for America.”
I was reading that in the Obama administration, the prosecution of whistleblowers reached an all time high. If that is true, they are continuing in the same path that has already been trodden.
On the other hand, if that is true, then perhaps the fondness of Obama for prosecuting whistleblowers should be whispered to Trump; if Obama did that, he would have to do the opposite, right?
In a very tepid defence of Obama, my understanding is that his administration prosecuted people who leaked information to the press. We may consider those people whistle blowers, but they did not go through the approved channels for whistle blowers that were used in the Ukraine case. One path provides protections and is lawful, the other is not, even if it may be just as moral. The Trumpers want us to conflate the two so they can portray all of them as illegal and deserving of punishment.
