Nevertheless he persisted
Pennsylvania and Nevada, two key battleground states, certified President-elect Joe Biden’s wins Tuesday, even as President Trump continued to fight results in court and insisted that he will “never concede.”
So he will never not be a childishly sore loser. Ok Spanky.
Trump’s “legal team” is shouting that there will be hearings, hearings I tell you, but Arizona says nope we don’t have any hearings scheduled.
The campaign said Arizona would hold a hearing on Nov. 30, but spokesmen for the Arizona GOP caucuses confirmed that neither the House speaker nor the Senate president had authorized any such hearing.
Who you gonna believe, them or…never mind.
It’s Schroedinger’s Concession*: Trump is simultaneously conceding (in terms of authorizing the release of transition funds, giving Biden the presidential daily briefing, and other substantive things) for purposes of getting insiders and knowledgeable followers of politics to shut up, and not conceding (with rallies and lawsuits and angry tweets, and refusing to say the words “concede” or “President-Elect”) to persuade the rubes that he’s still fighting (because “that’s what he does, HE FIGHTS!!!1111!”).
*– I think there’s a better term for this type of thing, where you have two different contradictory messages for two different audiences, but I’m blanking on it, so this will have to do.
I think “Schroedinger’s Concession” is awesome! :)
I was thinking this might be a form of motte and bailey, in which the bailey is the claim Trump won while the motte is the allowing of the transition, but in this case it’s probably a Barnum and Bailey instead.
Trump is doing what Trump has always done – think only of himself. He has to sow doubts in his base in order to create his government in absentia. From that position he plans to fight a guerilla war against the duly elected government in advance of 2024, at which time he no doubt already images himself triumphantly returning to the White House. This isn’t a stretch since that’s been the core of Mitch McConnell’s play book for years. Call it MAFA: make America fucked again.
How ironic it is that Trump, et al, constantly train their base to ignore all established authority (professionalism, science, etc.) while insisting that the base never questions his, sad and tragic more than ironic, I suppose.
Speaking of 2024, I saw an article yesterday about various web domain names (probably not the technical name but I’m not a technology person) such as ‘DonaldTrump2024’ have been bought up be comedians and pranksters so that DT couldn’t get his hands on them. Potential for fun, methinks, but if they’ve bought them thinking he’ll buy them at a profit they’d best get cash upfront.
