In whatever terms
This is a Labour MP.
But that’s not true. Everyone isn’t free to define herself in whatever terms she deems fit. I’m not free to define myself as Charlotte Nichols MP, for instance. Many many kinds of defining oneself as something or someone one is not are criminal fraud, while others are reckless endangerment, and others are rape, and we could go on this way. We’re not free to tell lies about ourselves if anything hangs on those lies. If it’s just play or fantasy or a game, sure, but that’s not what Nichols is talking about, nor is it what the LGB Alliance is talking about.
Would Nichols say the same thing if it were a white guy identifying as Keith Vaz? I don’t think so.
Presumably that’s not what she meant, but then what did she mean? What is this supposed truism that we can all identify any way we like? I wonder if they will ever start to notice that they’ve created their own reductio ad absurdum.
Gee, must be more of that hate group bullying I keep hearing about.
Well we’re all free to identify as whatever we like, it’s just that no-one else is obliged to go along with us. Donald Trump self-identifies as the winner of the 2020 US presidential election, and as a man with very nice hair. He’s free to do so. The rest of the world however, has no obligation to humour him.
I look foward to the next great campaign for the oppressed and marginalised – free height reduction surgery for anyone who self-identifies as Napoleon
I’m not offended by people’s choice of pronouns.
I’m offended by them presuming they should be able to force us to use those pronouns.
Every time the term “my pronouns” is used, there’s an implicit threat of violence.
An “ally” friend recently posted a list of at least fifty pronouns, titles, and other reference terms, and indicated which ones would be acceptable for her. It is mind boggling that anyone would think filling in this matrix for every single person we talk about, based solely on that person’s preferences, is normal and a good thing.
Well if someone is offended by my choice of the pronoun “he” for Eddie Izzard, I agree that person should be getting some perspective.
The State of California email signatures now include “preferred pronouns”. I LOL’ed.
“a white guy identifying as Keith Vaz?”
Actually, given that every human being has SOME African blood, this is probably more logical than a 6’4 bearded weight lifter identifying as a “woman”

My thought exactly.
If you are offended by the pronouns I use to refer to you, given everything else going on in the world, might
I suggest getting a little perspective?
