Highest civilian honor
Trump gave the Prez Medal of Freedom to a wrestler today.
This prestigious award is the Nation’s highest civilian honor, which may be awarded by the President to individuals who have made especially meritorious contributions to the security or national interests of the United States, to world peace, or to cultural or other significant public or private endeavors.
Like, you know, wrestling.
How about poker? Any prez medals for that?
Bridge? Checkers? Monopoly? Hide & seek?
He’s trolling us (or maybe the wrestler gave him cash for it).
Without looking at the details, I’d guess that he’s a more worthy recipient than Rush Limbaugh.
Low bar, I know.
Oh, Dan Gable. That’s better than what I expected, which was a WWE “wrestler”.
Skeletor — yes, or Jim Jordan
Screechy, he could also have gone with Denny Hastert.
Dan Gable is truly one of the greatest wrestlers of all time, and he has piles of awards, medals, and hall of fame inductions to prove it. I’m not sure what the point of giving him the medal of freedom on top of all that is.
Skeletor, I was also expecting Dwayne Elizondo Mountain Dew Herbert Camacho.
I was expecting Hulk Hogan or Jesse Ventura.
Of course, I could understand it if the recipient were one of the truly great British wrestlers, like Big Daddy: https://www.britishwrestlersreunion.com/daddy2.jpg
Incidentally, Trump walked out of the ceremony after a reporter asked him a question about his intentions for the inauguration. Gable and what I presume was his family were left standing there in front of the press in the Oval Office, confused about what to do next.
God. How fucking mean. On top of everything else he’s just mean.
It’s also shitty staff work. Where’s the person from the Press Office to step in and say, “I’m sorry, the President isn’t taking questions today” (or “only questions about Mr. Gable’s award, thank you”)? Or even just to smoothly gloss over the President’s little tantrum, engage Gable and his family in polite chat, and lead them to wherever they’re supposed to go next? (I suppose that may have happened after the clip I saw ended, but if so it was a pretty slow reaction.)
The people from the Press Office are way too busy peddling lies to do any actual Press Office work.
