He was home sick that day
Trump says he never heard a word about it.
President Trump is denying a New York Times report that he was briefed on an alleged Russian effort to pay bounties to Taliban-linked militants to kill Western forces — including U.S. troops — in Afghanistan.
Please. He was briefed. Maybe he didn’t read it, maybe he didn’t listen, maybe he was too busy tweeting, maybe he instantly forgot it because he doesn’t give a shit – but he was briefed.
Citing unnamed officials, the Times report, published Friday, details how U.S. intelligence officials reached the conclusion about the secret payments and then briefed the president in March. The White House National Security Council conferred an interagency meeting that same month to discuss the matter, according to the report. The finding was also included in the President’s Daily Brief, according to the Times.
According to the Times, U.S. officials have concluded that the bounty operation was orchestrated by the GRU, an arm of Russian military intelligence that has been linked to assassination attempts and other cloak-and-dagger operations, including the 2018 nerve agent poisoning of a former Russian spy in Salisbury, England.
The GRU is the same unit that U.S. intelligence has implicated in efforts to sway the 2016 presidential election.
Trump doesn’t care. Trump has tweets to send and golf balls to move when no one’s looking and pussies to grab and lies to tell.
But who cares if you were or were not briefed, Two Scoops? You have the information now. What are you going to do about this?
Side question, at what point does his behavior cross into treason? Not that the GOP won’t burn the country down to protect him, but we seem to be nudging solidly into “aid and comfort to the enemy” territory.
Yes and that’s one reason we do care whether or not he was briefed.
Yeah, I take your point. It’s just the glaring lack of theory of mind. If such a thing happened on my watch, the last thing I’d be doing is making excuses. But I’d never get elected in the first place.
I know. It’s always that, isn’t it. “I will say I was never briefed, and everyone will believe me.” Worst ToM in history.
For those who want to protest that treason only applies when it is an enemy, I would say this now qualifies. Friends don’t pay for the murder of friends. And since this occurred in a war situation, that makes it war.
His last defence always amounts to “ah, well you see, I’m completely incompetent” and everyone seems to nod sagely and say “oh, well of course that’s perfectly all right then.”
He starts off with ‘so called attacks’, which suggests that there were no attacks, then in the very next sentence says that ‘there have not been many attacks on us’, so admitting that there were attacks and at the same time all-but saying ‘Yeah, Putin’s guys did attack American troops but they didn’t kill many; nowhere like enough to be worth even pretending to give a shit’.
Sir, publically stating that the lives of American troops aren’t worth anything is classy work, sir.
By denying being briefed about Putin’s game, he’s also accusing his chiefs of the security and intelligence agencies of deriliction of duty. It is their job to ensure that he is informed of such serious threats. I’m sure it’s safe to say that all of those chiefs will have been told to shut the fuck up and not contradict him unless they want to be fired.
Sir, that’s exactly the kind of behaviour that inspires loyalty from the people protecting you and the country, sir.
@AoS: keep it up. He likes it when you call him “sir”. Bonus if you do it with tears in your eyes.
