Get hotter!
The Trump energy department has issued a long report saying “YEAH FOSSILE FUELS AWESOME BRING ON THOSE FOSSIL FUELS IGNORE THOSE WILDFIRES AND PUT SOME MORE FOSSIL FUEL IN THE TANK!”
Released a month before the election, the report is strikingly at odds with the realities of climate change that the American public has been coping with over the past few months, from huge wildfires to destructive derecho storms and a series of intense hurricanes.
As in, huge wildfires that killed 31 people in California so far and displaced thousands and polluted the air throughout much of the country. Kind of a major drawback, you’d think, but not to Trump’s energy department.
The report doesn’t cover any of the industry’s downsides – from fueling climate change to polluting communities where it operates and providing the feedstock for plastic waste that is covering the earth. It focuses on the national security values of US energy independence but does not mention that the defense department frequently names the climate crisis as a threat.
It’s not, because we’ll overcome it by being STRONG.
…or dead!
Yeah, we’re apparently getting smoke today, and I am struggling with my asthma as a result – half a continent away from the fires. Trump isn’t bothered, because he can stay inside at the WH. Unless the smoke starts to disturb his golf, he won’t care. And then he’ll just suggest setting up a big fan and blowing it away from him. No need to worry about all those coastal elites in California, Oregon, or Washington. They didn’t vote for Trump, right?
Can I just ask yet again how a billionaire from the east coast has made political capital in pouring hate and scorn on ordinary folk simply because they live vaguely near either coast and might (or might not) have an education beyond year 5? The whole coastal elite bullshit (well and truely predating Trump) has to have one of the early canary’s indicating that the USA was heading for armageddon.
Rob, he made political capital because he got the votes in this part of the country, the “wholesome middle”, which is how they like to think of themselves – wholesome, I mean, true Americans embodying the Christian values and maintaining the country against constant onslaughts from the coastal elite. Add in the south, and you have a witches brew of trouble. I mean, he did it without winning the vote of the majority, right? That’s the only thing that keeps me from giving up on people altogether. I keep reminding myself – there were more people who voted for Hillary than voted for the orange Julius Caesar. The problem is, it’s easy to forget when you are surrounded by Trump flags.
Rob, he did it by appealing to the “wholesome middle” – that class of people here in the middle of the country who believe themselves to be the real Americans, embodying Christian values, and holding on in the face of a relentless onslaught of socialism from the coastal elite. Add in the south and…you have a witches brew of trouble. I mean, seriously, he did it without winning the vote of the people. I try to remember that whenever I begin to believe that everyone is insane – Hillary got more votes than the Orange Julius Caesar. It’s hard to remember that when you’re surrounded by Trump flags.
Crap. Did I post something in my sleep? I seem to have posted essentially the same thing twice! Need coffee…or is that covfefe?
I’d avoid the covfefe, we still haven’t established exactly what that was.
But covfefe and covid both start with ‘cov’. Oh, please don’t let Trump realise that; he’ll be claiming that God was telling him to warn us all that time ago, only he spelt it wrong ‘cos God was speaking in foreign.
God’s fault, not Trump’s would be a fantastic campaign slogan, though.
Did my comment disappear? I put so much* effort into it!

Been there; done that. Just make a copy before posting, and post again if necessary.
AoS,
As it happens, “covfefe” is Aramaic for “covid”.
Holms @ 9 – Um…I don’t know? Interesting philosophical issue there. It’s not in spam, so I have no idea if 1. you posted it and it disappeared or 2. you only imagined posting it. Or, 3., you’re having a little joke.
What I wanna know is, how come us Michiganders aren’t considered ‘coastal elites’. We all live within a hundred miles of 4 out of 5 Great Lakes. We call it the North Coast. We wanna be elite too!
Yeah, I live between the Platte River and the Republican River. I’m on two coasts!
