I can’t remember who it was but one of the tell-all books on the Trump administration talked about how Trump’s aides learned that the only way to get his attention was to write short documents in large print and mention his name a lot in the prose, as well as including flattering snippets from news reports.
The first time I read that it really struck me how developmentally stunted he is. Egocentrism is an attribute that mostly dissipates in late adolescence/early adulthood. It’s important at that early stage to develop a sense of self, of identity and that’s not a bad thing, even if it is rather irritating. Trump appears to have never have progressed beyond that stage. He really seems to believe that everyone else is thinking the same things as he is, that everyone pays as much attention to him as he pays himself and is interested in what he does and thinks. He can’t seem to conceive of anyone having a different opinion unless they are bad people, personally wanting to attack him.
Claire – yup. What I keep saying: his non-existent Theory of Mind. It’s jaw-dropping to watch. I just watched a full ten minutes of today’s press briefing and my jaw dropped and dropped and dropped.

The most terrifying words in the English language are: “I’m Donald Trump, and I’m here to help.”
Hat-tip to R Reagan
