But nobody is claiming trans women don’t have a right to play – the issue is whether trans women (people with male bodies) have a right to play against women, in defiance of the danger to the women and the unfairness to the women.
If getting injured wasn’t a particular issue (that is, no more likely than usual) and modesty wasn’t an issue (that is, no more than usual) and the competition was fair (that is, no harder than usual) and only way a woman athlete could play was on the men’s team — someone who truly loved the sport play on that team. The activity, the strategy, the teamwork, the crowd, the victory, the awards, and just pushing yourself at what you do well would still be the same. So to hell with it and do it.
I think TIM’s won’t play on the men’s teams primarily because it doesn’t validate them as women. They don’t “love” it all that much or they wouldn’t insist it’s that or nothing.
“As a union, we are proud to support trans women and their right to play.”
Cool, so am I. Put them in the male league, where they can play the game they love on fair terms with their opponents.
Or put them in their own league, where they can all be special snowflakes together. (Not so special when everyone else looks similar to you, though.)
It’s not fair to TIMs not to let them hurt women and get away with it.
