Chasing the fox
President Trump has told friends he wants to start a digital media company to clobber Fox News and undermine the conservative-friendly network, sources tell Axios.
Which is interesting, since he wouldn’t be where he is if it weren’t for Fox.
Some Trump advisers think Fox News made a mistake with an early call (seconded by AP) of President-elect Biden’s win in Arizona. That enraged Trump, and gave him something tangible to use in his attacks on the network.
“Tangible”? I’m not seeing the tangibility. Or the merit, or the reasonability, or anything of that type.
“He plans to wreck Fox. No doubt about it,” said a source with detailed knowledge of Trump’s intentions.
What a guy.
The Age (the Australian paper) has more:
Rupert Murdoch’s Fox Corp shares tumbled with speculation ramping up that President Donald Trump might back or launch a rival news service after he leaves office.
American news site Axios reported on Thursday, citing unidentified sources, that Trump is planning a subscription-based streaming platform similar to Fox Nation, a $US6-a-month service launched two years ago.
Fox shares declined from the start of trading, and the drop deepened after Trump amplified a series of Twitter posts from users criticising Fox News as insufficiently loyal to the president and urging conservatives to switch to rivals such as Newsmax
Nice of him to spend his time trying to create a new career when he’s supposed to be working for us.
H/t Omar
Maybe he should buy into OANN, this is the kind of garbage he wants to hear.

Fascist propaganda, just what his deluded ass wants to hear.
As Ed Brayton used to say, pass the popcorn!
I wonder how he thinks he’s even going to capitalize this venture, seeing as how he’s already hundreds of millions in debt — his credit rating might be a bit of a problem. Also I hear he may have some legal problems looming, which could take up a lot of his free time, and someone should tell him that he won’t be allowed to run a business from prison.
But I’m not too upset that Fox shareholders lost money today.
I hope he eventually gets banned from twitter, but at least he still has facebook, the shitheads there say that Bannon calling for beheadings is not worthy of suspension or censorship. Trump can be the king of facebook tirades, which is great since I don’t look at facebook at all, in fact my firewall prevents it. :D
Facebook is a plague.
I don’t see why Trump couldn’t build a successful news network. Why, all it would take would be for him to work very hard, not get distracted by other things, hire good people and listen to what they say…what, why are you all looking at me like that?
Heh. I was thinking he probably could pull it off just because so many damn fools love him, but you give me new hope.
It wouldn’t be surprising to see another failed Trump venture. Gather up some gullible investors, run the thing into the ground, and stick them with the bill. File for bankruptcy and everyone pays but him. This is his formula, so those of you that think Trump is a good investment? Fools and their money.
Wasn’t there a rumor back in 2016 that he was thinking about this, and he was only running to drum up interest? I may be remembering wrong, but I was sure I remembered something about that.
Yes – at least there was talk that he was just drumming up interest for something. Or maybe a cornucopia of somethings.
Trump News? Trump TV? Even More Insane Than Fox News? Batshit Crazy News? The Seventy Million People Can Be Wrong Channel?
The media Overton Window skews even further right.
I hope they both lose.
This is actually a big win. We want him bored with the presidency and giving up on trying to spike the election because he’s found something shiny. The only part of presidenting that he wanted to do was campaigning. Let him run around the country, holding superspreader events in red states and forget about the job that he had no intention of doing in the first place.
This might free the grown-ups and allow them to hand the power over to someone who will at least attempt to do the job.
Ah yes, but are there any grown-ups left in the White House? Apart from catering and house keeping staff, that is. And security, I suppose.
I think we can safely assume that the “Media Network” will turn out to be Trump and Steve Bannon sitting in a cupboard with egg boxes glued to the walls and a webcam from Argos.
@iknklast:
If you are misremembering it then I am misremembering exactly the same thing.
Re WH security: a book I read recently had a tyrant king who died. He fell out of bed. He sustained serious injuries doing so. He had many security personnel in the bedroom, but they were unable to reach him in time to prevent him from falling out of bed. Such a tragic accident.
Sometimes I wish Trump had similar bedroom guards dedicated to his safety.
Well there’s always Melania.
If a new business is to be successful it stands the best chance by exploiting a gap in the market. Is Trump unaware that between them Fox and the Discovery network of channels have the market for conspiracy theories, Nazis, UFOs and aliens and the supernatural pretty much covered?
iknklast & latsot, yep, I also recall the orange one’s plans for his own network to be set up after the 2016 election (which he clearly expected to lose). It was thought that he would poach most of the talent (sic) from Fox.
From the BBC, Oct. 2016:
It was said that Trump planned to capitalise on anti-media feelings among his supporters, feelings drummed up by himself, of course, with tweets such as this one, sent the month before polling had begun in earnest.
Sounds familiar. Four years later he just switched Crooked Hillary for Sleepy Joe – and lost.
