By name and by nature
This is evil.
One, women refusing to agree that “men can be women if they say they ‘identify as’ women” is not kneeling on other people’s necks. It’s not murder, and it’s not murder-by-torture. It’s evil to accuse women of torture and murder for saying that only women are women.
Two, it’s insulting to George Floyd and to other victims of police brutality to drag their horror into a misogynist attack on women who don’t agree that men are women.
Three, it’s appropriation, the real kind, and an incredibly disgusting example of it.
Four, much more minor, where is “here”? Twitter? Garbage doesn’t get to tell us we’re not welcome on Twitter. Garbage is not the boss of us or of anyone else.
At least their band is well-named. That’s the best I can say for them.
Interesting, coming from a 90’s band who’s biggest hit was ‘Stupid Girl’, about being phony. Time for them to be woke and relevant again?
I’ve been trying to work Kanye into one of my posts, but this didn’t make the cut either. I think I’m still laughing too hard. Musicians! (lol)
And this is why certain societal principles can never be violated, even and especially when it is expedient. “Punch a Nazi,” becomes, “punch a TERF,” and it happens with ease. Thus we cannot subject to violence those whom we deem immoral merely for their immorality.
The same goes for freedom of religion. The same goes for freedom of expression.
That people make it through high school without learning these things amazes me.
My guess is that “here” means here in the sense of anywhere. Earth. Probably they won’t even want us on the moon. We are to die in a grease fire and not bother those men in dresses anymore.
I agree that this is utterly disgusting. And the specter of a dominant class (men) finding a way to claim all that belongs to the oppressed class (women) is appropriate, but in this case, they are even appropriating the right to determine what we call ourselves. No one eating a taco ever thinks of it as “cis-Mexican” food, or demands the right to claim it was invented in the USA. We aren’t even allowed to name our appropriation, because the name itself has been declared hate speech (unless used in pre-approved ways, such as, to refer to men in dresses).
Now that the schools are required to be maximum woke where trans are concerned (they don’t all do that yet, but when schools in central Nebraska are embracing the woke, you know it isn’t long until Alabama falls), it s even more likely they will not learn this in high school – or anywhere else.
Schools have been pushing the “all ideas equally valid” thing for far too long; students struggle with science classes because they have been given that their entire life. It is the most missed question on my syllabus quiz; True or False: This instructor considers that all ideas are equally valid. It was inevitable, then, that the young would find it perfectly reasonable that the idea a man can become a woman is as valid as the idea you are not; then, it was only a step to the idea that a man can become a woman is MORE valid than that a man cannot become a woman. All they had to do was stick a T on the LGB, distort perfectly reasonable arguments about rights into arguments to support abnormal levels of privilege, and the woke (sleep-woking, IMHO) just follow right along!
I have the same problem with “Punch a Nazi” Theory. Yes, Nazis are horrible, no question. Despicable, even. If you punch a Nazi, I really have no problem with that. But what about someone who isn’t actually, literally a Nazi but who says nasty stuff? Or is—in your eyes—somehow sympathetic to Nazis? Or whose opinions on other things appear to line up with Nazis? Or who might not be a Nazi, but he’s obviously terrible, and for all we know he might believe Nazi stuff? You know what—I’ll bet he does!
How horrible does someone need to be before it’s okay to punch/kill/demonzie them? And who will evaluate their horribleness? And what if MY views—which I take to be self-evidently correct—are so horrible to someone else that they want to punch me? Is that also okay? Is everyone getting punched the cost of living in a paradise of just and righteous vigilantes?
Or could it be that all this rests on the idea that your opinions, conclusions, and values are the only correct ones?
I didn’t realize it was a band at first. I thought maybe it was someone who specialized in writing garbage tweets such as this one.

They did the theme song to the movie The World Is Not Enough.
First I’m hearing about this movie…
That’s disappointing. I love the band, but considerably less so now. :-/
I agree that it’s disappointing. I have heard sounds coming out of Shirley Manson’s mouth that were indistinguishable from the sounds made by a radical feminist. But by now we know what the sounds coming out of people’s mouths are worth, don’t we…
There I was thinking Garbage’s best known song was “I think I’m Paranoid”…
