Another nasty woman asks a nasty question
And then there’s Yamiche Alcindor’s question, and his rude and stupid and mendacious response.
He actually turns to Anthony Fauci to ask if he knows about this disbanding of the White House team responsible for dealing with epidemics.
His response is “I don’t know anything about it, we’re doing a great job”. This is typical of his dismissive and shallow answer to a legitimate question. His systematic dismantling of anything Obama has been irresponsible, and he very clearly said “I take no responsibility”. Typical childish behavior, blame others, no accountability, lying. It must have been because the question is from a PBS reporter and not one from Fox News. Time to set aside partisanship though, right?
In other news today, Swaziland confirmed their first case of corona virus.
So here’s the thing – Swaziland looks to be handling this better than Trump.
My understanding is that American citizens and health authorities can take whatever action they deem necessary to deal with the Covid-19 crisis, without first having to get Trump’s permission or approval. If he is in the way, like a great bag of shit, they can just go round him.
Or am I missing something here?
Yes. Obama had set up a team for epidemic response, to make the necessary things happen faster, with better communication among agencies, and the like. Trump threw it out. This is a country of 330 million people, most of whom are not medical professionals; we can’t just fix a developing pandemic by “taking action.”
Or perhaps I don’t understand your question.
Going just by your words, Omar, the amount you are missing is a ____ton, or perhaps a ____load. We can start with accurate testing and documenting, if you’d like.
Omar, many of us are tied to what our insurance will pay for, what our doctor will provide, and in terms of isolating, what our bosses decide. I am more fortunate than others where I work in that my supervisor has put me on work at home because of my high risk status. But our president has declared that faculty will continue to put in full hours on campus until Spring Break (that is one week), and then thereafter once Spring Break is over. My supervisor has declared that high risk people may begin doing all work through distance methods, but the school is not providing us with many of the tools we need to do that. The president has told us this is the status until local, regional, state, or federal authorities say otherwise. In short, Trump is setting the pattern for our school. Do nothing until someone dies could be the description of his policy.
Though he does instruct us to make alternative distance methods available to students who wish them.
But let’s all pull ourselves up by our bootstraps anyway!
OB, clamboy and iknklast:
Well, you all live there; I don’t. But “the president has told us this is the status until local, regional, state, or federal authorities say otherwise” would indicate that the said non-Trump authorities have the power to by-pass him, and the less power Trump has in the situation, the better for all concerned. IMHO.

(The Atlantic on this has been brilliant, Again IMHO.)
Omar, that might work in Seattle, but our governor is a Trump Republican. Our mayor is so corporate owned he won’t do anything that will cost someone even a dollar (unless the someone is the poor schmuck making minimum wage, and the dollar it is costing her is going into big business’s pocket). Our state is a wholly owned subsidiary of Trump Enterprises. Our president is just passing the buck. See, not my fault. I would have shut down but…
And everyone here is sure that people are overreacting, and that shutting down is an inconvenience that will not be matched by benefits.
The action that is becoming pretty standard round the world is self-isolation. But a lot harder for some than for others.
