What do you think, Volodya?
It seems that Trump asked Putin for advice on his date with Kim. “How far should I let him go?”
Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov says the United States has asked Moscow’s advice in dealing with North Korea before a summit between President Donald Trump and the North Korean leader.
Yeah that’s great. He doesn’t consult with allies or diplomats or academics, but he does consult with Putin. That makes all the sense, and can’t possibly be a disaster.
Lavrov, who is also visiting Vietnam this week, said in comments carried by Russian news agencies on Monday that Russia believes that the U.S. ought to offer Pyongyang “security guarantees” for the disarmament deal to succeed. He also mentioned that “the U.S. is even asking our advice, our views on this or that scenario of” how the summit in Hanoi could pan out.
“Even” indeed. The man is deranged.
So we should offer Pynongyang security guarantees even while telling Europe they can go f*** themselves? This will not turn out well…which is exactly what Putin wants.
C’mon now. Who better to ask how to deal with a dictator than another dictator?
The US could save a lot on intelligence budgeting by scrapping its own agencies and just phoning Putin. It would cut down on needless duplication of services. After all, he was in intelligence, wasn’t he? He probably knows a thing or two about how things work. He’s always so friendly and helpful. What could possibly go wrong?
Are Republicans so fucking scared of being primaried by Trump’s supporters that they will sit silent while he hands the running of foreign policy over to a hostile power? (I know, silly me. OF COURSE they’re so fucking scared that they’ll do exactly that.)
The US is sooooo fucked.
Rob, we were so fucked the day Trump threw his hat in the ring and rallied a significant number of xenophobic racist sexists (male and female alike) into his camp. At that point, win or lose, we were in trouble.
I get it that Trump probably does not know or doesn’t care that Russian interests may be different than American ones. Making America Great Again has only been about parades and Wall and greed and golf and Trump’s ego, not the betterment of life for American citizens, so that disconnect, however jarring, is not that hard to get. What I don’t get is how Trump can think that Putin is going to steer him right on anything he asks of him, that Putin’s goals might not have a lot of overlap with what Trump wants for Trump.
It must really drive actual, experience, knowledgable civil servants (assuming there are any left) nuts dealing with this shit. It’s really 25th time.
