The Administration leaked the commercial travel plans
Meanwhile Trump outdid himself in the Disgusting Prize competition. Nancy Pelosi’s spokesperson followed his race around the track.
After President Trump revoked the use of military aircraft to travel to Afghanistan, the delegation was prepared to fly commercially to proceed with this vital trip to meet with our commanders and troops on the front lines.

This morning, we learned that the Administration had leaked the commercial travel plans as well.

They exposed the plan to travel via commercial flights. Trump’s petty rancid ego is more important to them than the safety of members of Congress doing their job in a danger zone. It’s astounding.
In light of the grave threats caused by the President’s action, the delegation has decided to postpone the trip so as not to further endanger our troops and security personnel, or the other travelers on the flights.

He should be impeached, arrested, and pushed into a vat of fermenting elephant dung, with high walls and no ladder.
But OB, what about his cellphone? Should he still have access to Twitter? As in “I, Donald Trump, the latest and greatest President of the United States, which includes all my successors till the end of time, am tweeting to you right now from inside a vat of hot fermenting liquefied elephant dung with no ladder out, and am waiting for the Shutdown to work the way I intended, which it will most definitely because it was all my own idea, and… glug, glug, glug, glug…”
It seems pretty clear that he (possibly on someone else’s advice) is trying to get Pelosi murdered.
Jeez man, can’t you at least use your own brownshirts (ICE) for that?
The way this thing is playing out, there will likely soon come a point at which it starts to dawn on Republican legislators at all levels federal and state that it will look better on their CV for future electioneering purposes if: {a) they are not seen as pro-Trump or (b) are seen as not pro-Trump (not quite the same thing) or (c) are seen as anti-Trump. Individuals among them could move through these stages in succession, and with of course, varying speed..
But once it starts, it could rapidly turn into an avalanche. Nobody wants to be seen as on the same team as a crook, or the last to head for the exit.
Perhaps I should rephrase that…
.
Omar, that rephrase you mentioned; rats deserting a sinking rat?
As for the OP, I’m not claiming prophetic powers but I believe I called this yesterday, in comment #4 here; http://www.butterfliesandwheels.org/2019/who-is-it-thats-unhinged-again/ and in more detail in comment #5 here; http://www.butterfliesandwheels.org/2019/trips-to-active-war-zones-are-never-discussed-in-advance/
He knew that revealing the initial plans in his letter would make his arrogant suggestion of Pelosi flying commercial a high-risk strategy anyway, but because she had the guts to call his bluff he made absolutely sure that the trip was called off with this second reveal. Besides, it wouldn’t just be government and military personnel in danger because Trump has merrily put any civilians who may have been on those commercial aircraft at risk, too.
That bears repeating. In order to avenge himself on Pelosi, Trump was prepared to risk the lives of any American* civilians on those commercial flights.
*Civilians of other nationalities may have also been on those flights, but until this Trump has at least pretended to care about ‘great’ American citizens. The mask has just slipped a little further.
I have this ghastly fear that many of the senators standing between Trump and unemployment are secretly hoping for the president to be removed from office by irregular means. They fear impeachment or even reigning him in because that will lose them the support of his rabid fans. But if Trump was to suffer the consequences of failure from a demoralised secret service their biggest problem will be hiding their joy behind a veil of crocodile tears.
Can you imagine a better outcome from the perspective of Pence and the rest of the far right lunatics currently controlling the republican party?
The Trump era could well soon be seen as a prelude to a much worse horror. One that may be sustained for a long time and removed only after a period of turmoil on a magnitude not seen in the US since 1865.
I hope I’m wrong.
Nogbert, the one thing I fear more than most things is a Trump martyrdom. Assassinated presidents come in for a legend that gives them grander glory than most deserve. Trump assassinated would be a lot more dangerous to us than Trump impeached (and I suspect Trump impeached would be rather dangerous, anyway, since his followers are so rabid. The only question: Is Trump impeached more or less dangerous than Trump in office? Discuss in complete sentences, and turn in your paper at the end of class).
iknklast, the answer to your question is Yes.
Nogbert, re. “They fear impeachment or even reigning him in because that will lose them the support of his rabid fans. Also because they know he’ll have enough on them to take many of them down with him.
As for post-impeachment punishment, I have my own vote–lock him in the brig of a nuclear submarine. He stays there until he dies of natural causes, never coming ashore again. And when he finally does croak, he gets dumped in the Marianas Trench. Make him forever a man without a country, for no nation on earth deserves him.
