Syrian Kurds under bombardment from Turkish jets
Our country is already an authoritarian state from a practical standpoint: one person is making all major decisions, both foreign and domestic. He refuses to follow the law or recognize the Constitution. So long as the GOP enables him, things will only get worse.
Indeed. This has been the case from the moment he took office. He does what he feels like and no one so far can stop him.
Fox News Pentagon reporter Lucas Tomlinson:
Syrian Kurds under bombardment from Turkish jets urgently request air support from U.S. and “No fly zone” to protect civilians: SDF statement
Fox News national security correspondent Jennifer Griffin responds:
The US military has been ordered by President Trump not to help.
It’s going to be another Srebrenica.
I have long suspected a 25th Amendment solution would only lead to a theocratic Pence presidency, but now I’m beginning to wonder if that might not be better. Maybe there are enough people who don’t want to fall arbitrary and harsh Biblical law to actually stomp that back.
25, please.
It appears that in Erdogan Trump recognises a soul mate, and a Turkish-style regime in the US appears to be what he aspires to.
God help the Kurds, because nobody else will.
Apparently it’s all the Kurds fault for not helping with D-Day or something, according to the Guardian. To which I can only say, wut?
#3 Claire: Yep, he said the Kurds weren’t such great allies because they didn’t help us in WW2 on the beaches of Normandy.
I doubt Pence would be worse than this demented maniac. Pence might have stronger conservative inclinations in a lot of ways, but he wouldn’t be doing all this crazy stuff, and I doubt he’d be running roughshod over the law every time he didn’t get his way.
@Skeletor:
I honestly think he would run roughshod over the law *now* and expect that to be Republican sop going forward. We’ve learned that you can do that without consequences.
BKiSA, I agree with you on that. I think his desire for a theocracy is why he accepted a second place position in this freak show in the first place. Trump breaks things, then the theocrats come in and put it back together their own way. The Constitution, which contains no mentions of “under God” and which contains those pesky clauses about no religious test and no religious establishment, is being turned into so much toilet paper. They have a Supreme Court that will probably feel empowered to interpret it any way they wish (except for the relatively sane four who cannot carry a majority). With nothing working right, they can do pretty much what they want. It’s the dominionist’s dream.
