Save only white people, please
Now there’s a heartwarming story:
The Royal National Lifeboat Institute has been forced to defend its work saving lives overseas after an article on the Mail Online sparked an angry backlash on social media.
The story highlighted how the charity – famed for its distinctive orange lifeboats manned by volunteers – spends £3.3m a year on projects in Tanzania and Bangladesh yet has been forced to cut around 100 jobs in the UK.
And that “sparked a backlash” because…it’s so wrong to save the lives of people in Tanzania and Bangladesh? They really want to go there?
People need to get inoculated against trumpbrain, immediately. Infection with trumpbrain kills your compassion stone dead and you can never get it back.
The RNLI was forced to issue a statement in which it stood by its international work that “saves (mostly kids’) lives” and said the amount spent overseas totalled just 2% of its expenditure and was public information.
Well you see it’s not the overseas part that galls. It’s the…cough…cough cough…the Tanzania/Bangladesh part. I’m sure you understand. Don’t make me say it.
I’m sure most of the outrage came from people who also support Brexit. they don’t even like white foreigners.
Both America and Britain are in a state of madness, as far as I can tell.
Let’s destroy any hope of great economic prosperity and international influence just to tone down the brown…
Not mad, just willfully stupid.
As soon as I saw the Burkini reference on the Yahoo article I just knew that some people would fell reflexive outrage. They are giving burkinis to women – how repressive!
Except of course – without the burkini they would not be swimming. The burkini is a means to an end – the end being opening womens lives, help save their lives. Does that change that the burkini is a piece of shit idea, since it is a tool for the suppression of women, of course not, but not using every possible method of helping women achieve a net benefit is by definition not helping either. Its letting the perfect being the enemy of the good!
I feel the same way about local (Danish) decisions. Like having swimming pools open for only women for some periods during the week, to allow for, especially muslim, women and girls to have swimming lessons.
Its an outrage that they can’t use the facilities just like everyone else, and we should be wary of introducing sex separation everywhere to the detriment of everyone, however if that is a way of allowing women who are being actively harmed by patriarchy to get out of the house and enjoy themselves and their bodies, then it might not be perfect, but it might be ok! We should still fight the patriarchy where it exists, for instance in the homes of some muslim, and other religious households. But effectively denying women the opportunity to do sports is not fighting patriarchy.
I did wince at the bit about the burkini, but I also had the follow-up thoughts you had. Fortunately it wasn’t central to the story of attacking a rescue organization for rescuing FOREIGN people, so I just left it alone.
I’ve been busy and now I’m trying to catch up on 2 day old posts chronological order, so you may already know this, but I won’t find out if you do for another day or two so I’m saying it anyway: The RNLI has had a wave of donations in response to this. Isn’t it nice when it it turns out that people are better than you thought.
