I think, in most cycling disciplines, the rainbow jersey is the symbol for a world champion. In the Tour de France, for example, the world champion road racer is allowed to wear their rainbow jersey in all the road stages, unless they hold a TdF jersey, like the yellow jersey or the green jersey. Any national road champions are entitled to wear their national jersey in lieu of their team jersey. If there is a time trial stage, on that day the world champion time trial cyclist wears their rainbow jersey, and the road cycling world champion does not, as they are not the world champion in the time trial discipline. It’s quite usual for world champion jerseys to bear rainbow stripes.
Those are the colours of the UCI. Like the logo on the right shoulder.

Should have said, the men’s world champion road racer, and the men’s world champion time trialist.
Seem’s appropriate – Mcinnon’s a man.
I meant, TdF is exclusively male.
maddog1129, yeah, I got that. But then, so is McKinnon.
McKinnon is a sick person and should seek help. His antics are not helping…anyone, any gender, anything.
