Liddle’
Genius at work. Trump a couple of hours ago:
To show you how dishonest the LameStream Media is, I used the word Liddle’, not Liddle, in discribing Corrupt Congressman Liddle’ Adam Schiff. Low ratings @CNN purposely took the hyphen out and said I spelled the word little wrong. A small but never ending situation with CNN!
President of the United States, everyone: doesn’t know what a hyphen is, doesn’t know what an apostrophe is, adds an apostrophe to an adjectival epithet for no known reason, announces for all the world to see that he doesn’t know what a hyphen is and doesn’t know what an apostrophe is and is basically only semi-literate.
Also misspells “describing” and thinks attaching a hyphen to a word makes it a new word.
Make us proud, Don!
It’s all just so covfefe.
The “hyphen”. Hahahahaha.
It’s a hyphen now! It may not have been one yesterday, but it is now. #Executive Privilege.
Hyphen lowphen nophen gophen!
And CNN is dishonest for making his tweet slightly more literate? O brave new world that has such people in ‘t!
CNN stole the hyphen! Liberal press and their hyphen-lootin’ ideas!
Oooh good one!
Nice work, Sackbut.
So he thinks it’s cool for the president to insult people on social media.
He doesn’t know the difference between a hyphen and an apostrophe.
He thinks “liddle” should be spelled with an apostrophe. (Liddle’? Why?)
He thinks quoting liddle’ as liddle is journalistic malfeasance and proves… something.
How many times can this guy embarrass himself in one morning?
In one TWEET, even.
It’s his one skill.
My guess is he has some vague, dementia-occluded memory of “li’l” as a contraction of “little”. So when he used “liddle” as what he imagined was a contraction of “little”, he thought to do it right he should include the apostrophe, which he misremembered as a hyphen.
And when CNN tried to help him by removing what they thought was extraneous punctuation, he thought they were trying to embarrass him. Because it’s not like he could embarrass himself, right?
It seems to me, though, he has used scare-quotes before for some of his rude nicknames. I’m thinking his brain has melted enough in the past few days that he can’t remember what scare-quotes look like and the one forlorn apostrophe was his sad attempt.
And that’s literally true. I think that’s where he got the apostrophe.
Skeletor’s explanation was where my mind went, too.
