Girl privilege
Via Acolyte of Sagan, a hideous crime in Argentina:
An 11-year old girl who became pregnant after being raped was forced to give birth after Argentine authorities refused to allow her the abortion to which she was entitled.
11. She’s 11. ELEVEN.
The authorities ignored repeated requests for an abortion from the child, called “Lucía” to protect her identity, as well as her mother and a number of Argentine women’s right activists. After 23 weeks of pregnancy, she had to undergo a caesarean section on Tuesday. The baby is unlikely to survive.
They wouldn’t let her end the pregnancy that was criminally forced on her, then they ripped her open. In other words the rapist raped her and then the authorities committed GBH on her.
Lucía told the psychologist at the hospital to which she was admitted after two suicide attempts: “I want you to remove what the old man put inside me.”
Lucía, the youngest of three sisters, became pregnant after she was abused by her grandmother’s 65-year-old partner. She was placed under her grandmother’s care in 2015, after her two older sisters were reportedly abused by her mother’s partner.
So I guess the authorities felt her life hadn’t been shit enough yet, and they needed to make it much more so.
“After 23 weeks of pregnancy, she had to undergo a caesarean section on Tuesday. The baby is unlikely to survive.”
Well, no fucking shit. She’d have been unlikely to survive too had this poor little girl been forced to carry the pregnancy any further. Forget requiring her to push the fetus out. She’s ELEVEN. Anyone stupid enough to think the ability to become pregnant = capable of safely carrying a pregnancy or delivering a baby should be given no adult responsibilities whatsoever.
And to think a fucking vacuum aspiration (or just holding men responsible for their actions but that will never happen) could have prevented the suffering and likely death the baby is going to experience and the profound emotional distress and physical suffering of the kid who was forced to carry a pregnancy and undergo abdominal surgery. Her body confirmed what she’d been saying all along. She shouldn’t have been pregnant. The pregnancy should have been ended at her first request. That piece of shit should have been removed from she and her sisters’ lives before this happened.
Sometimes I just don’t know what to do with my anger.
What is GBH?
My species is in dire need of abandoning religion. For fuck’s sake.
Anna, it’s grevious bodily harm.
The child apparently wanted to continue the pregnancy. Yeah, OK. I’m sure that’s what the suicide attempts were about, Mr. Medical Administrator.

And even if the child did want to continue the pregnancy, she’s 11. I doubt Mr Medical Administrator is in favour of letting 11-year-old make all their own decisions about everything. I think he’d probably argue that 11-year-olds shouldn’t drink, or smoke, or quit school in favour of playing video games and eating gummy bears all day. Bastard.
I don’t think a physician can require a child to undergo an abortion unless their life is immediately at risk. The dude was insistent her body mass was sufficient that there was potential for her to safely carry the pregnancy and, once her life was at immediate risk, the pregnancy was ended. That’s good.
The fact she attempted suicide multiple times and a psychologist is reporting she requested an abortion though makes me wonder if Mr. Medical Director’s pants aren’t on fire.
The authorities also (illegally) tried to use delaying tactics that would have forced her to endure the child to full term, which would undoubtedly have killed them both.

Fuck my state.
This does not sound like a child that wants to continue a pregnancy.
iknklast, but she’s only 11 years old. What child of that age really knows what they want? Those nice adults were clearly being kind and doing her thinking for her, assuming that she would grow to be an adult as deeply mired in religious bullshit as they themselves are and that one day she would thank them for their prescience.
Uh, I’m not sure now if it’s clear but in my above post, I’m calling the medical chap a bastard, not the previous commenter.
(Whoops)
