Will Trump call it fake news?
And then this.
I will tweet what I can while I wait to be interviewed by police.

A single shooter shot multiple people at my office, some of whom are dead.

Gunman shot through the glass door to the office and opened fire on multiple employees. Can't say much more and don't want to declare anyone dead, but it's bad.

There is nothing more terrifying than hearing multiple people get shot while you're under your desk and then hear the gunman reload

Maybe the choice of target was completely random, and Trump’s constant venomous attacks on the press had nothing to do with it.
And maybe not.
It’s been reported that recently Milo was saying he couldn’t wait for the vigilantes to start shooting journalists. I heard that on the radio this morning, so I haven’t seen the reports myself. Sounds entirely like something he would say though. NYPD moving police to major news outlets in the city.
I could be wrong but given this is a small, local paper with limited distribution, I’d guess this is probably going to turn out be a disgruntled ex-employee or asshole ex-romantic partner of someone who works at the paper.
Not that that makes it better of course but I just don’t see any gun-crazy whacko gunning down journo’s at the Gazette as some great strike against fake news. If it had been the Sun I might have been more inclined to believe that hypothesis but honestly the Gazette’s kinda dull.
Trump tweeted his ‘thoughts and prayers’. As someone in the industry, I’d rather he shouted ‘Fake news’ again, just because it would be a more transparent display of how utterly dogshit he is.
There is already a Wikipedia article. How do they do that?
For that matter, why do they do that?
Meanwhile, Hannity is blaming it on Maxine Waters and Obama – already – somehow….
@Jeff Hannity could blame Obama for the ousting of Adam and Eve from the Garden of Eden and his viewers would sit there sagely nodding their heads.
And Maxine Waters? Well, obviously encouraging people to protest against members of the current administration is exactly the same as calling for violence against the elitist media, as embodied by some uh poor, overworked and understaffed local newspaper. /s
Sigh. Stop the world, I wanna get off.
CBS is reporting that the shooter was a white man in his twenties with a shotgun. He wasn’t carrying id, and he had damaged his fingertips so they couldn’t get prints.
Claire,
Could just be a target of convenience.
Nothing wrong with a Wikipedia article. It’s a good place to have comprehensive treatment of any subject. How do they do it? Starting an article there is not much harder than commenting here.
I also think it’s likely there was no anti-media-in-general motive here, given that this isn’t an obvious target, but who knows.
When I heard the news, my first thought was it’s been a while since the last mass shooting. Good job, America? And then Fox News pushed an alert to my phone saying Trump is “offering his ‘thoughts and prayers’ “…which seemed to have a bit of a mocking tone. Maybe someone at even Fox News is sick of the ritual?
(Consults list of Fox News talking points) Ah, I see. This is not, I repeat, not terrorism, just an unfortunate case of mental illness….
(checks manual again)… and once again we see that assault weapons are not needed to kill people, therefore there is no reason to ban or regulate them.
Skeletor,
I think “thoughts and prayers” is becoming like “Merry Christmas” to the Fox News fanbase. Liberals have been criticizing the fecklessness of “thoughts and prayers” after each of these events, so I think we’ve now reached the stage where some conservatives will make a point of saying it purely as a fuck you gesture.
THOUGHTS AND PRAYERS, LIBERAL ASSHOLES.
One of the victims was Carl Hiaasen’s brother.
So, the asshole was pissed about losing a defamation case against the paper (for a story that ran 6 freakin’ years ago). The story? Well, it talked about how he’d been charged with harassment and stalking a former (female) acquaintance from high school via Facebook. The judge (judges, really, as the verdict was upheld all the way up the appellate chain) clearly felt the story was accurate, and therefore defended from the suit.
(BTW, the guy who ran the paper back when the story was run no longer does so, and lives down in Florida. This filth shot up a bunch of people who weren’t even related to his alleged grievance.)
