The most taboo word of all
Planned Parenthood on Facebook:
It’s common to have a wide range of feelings after an abortion. Some people may feel anger, regret, guilt, or sadness, but many ultimately feel relief. And the truth is that most people who have an abortion don’t regret it.
Women. The word is women. Women have abortions. Men do not. Generic “people” do not. Women do. This refusal to say the word “women” has got to stop.
That guy to the left of the purple caption? That’s a guy. He didn’t have an abortion, so he can’t regret his abortion, because he didn’t have one. He’s not part of the class of people who can need abortions, because he’s not part of the class of people who can get pregnant. There’s no reason to be “inclusive” of that guy.
That dude could easily be a woman (probably an old school butch lesbian)… otherwise, absolutely.
Notice though that ALL of the other characters are drawn with soft curves and edges. That character is drawn noticeably angular and boxy.
Updating to add: replying to BKiSA here, was typing while Rob said the same thing.
Not really, since it’s a drawing not a photograph. The draw-er was careful to square off the jaw and make the neck as wide as the jaw, unlike any of the other figures. Then again a man really can’t have an abortion so I guess that’s meant to be a trans man…in which case the draw-er made a rather stupid mistake.
I see that now… At a glance didn’t really notice it. Guess it’s just the eyes “correcting” what I’m seeing.
It’s sort of like that Charles Addams cartoon…
[…] As with Planned Parenthood talking about “people” having abortions. […]
Yet he’s placed so as to be the central figure.
@Lady Mondegreen #8 – he also stands out by looking directly at the reader. All the others are looking slightly to one side – mostly down and to the reader’s right, bar one on the right under the box looking to the reader’s left. But he’s looking up and straight ahead, which also draws the eye to him.
