Persistence
One wag issued instructions yesterday on what women at the women’s marches were allowed to think.
I also want to stress that if you do attend, it is CRUICIAL that you do with an INTERSECTIONAL mindset. Centering reproductive systems at the heart of these demonstrations is reductive and exclusionary.
The replies are a tad caustic. One included this eloquent cartoon.
Sorry, what does CRUICIAL mean?
INTERSECTIONAL, I have heard about (but don’t really get that either).
Also, is mindset in any way related to sunset?
As far as I can tell, it boils down to something like «for everybody except (the people formerly known as) women»
I’m no social or gender theorist, but when I first heard about intersectionality it was about seeing the struggles of individual marginalized groups in the context of an overall system of oppression by those with power and privilege, and to act accordingly.
Yes, intersectionality is a tool some social scientist (who happened to be a black woman IIRC) with the purpose of understanding combinations of marginalized classes as distinct classes in of themselves.
So poor white woman and gay black woman both belong to class “woman” but have different issues than that class alone.
Then a bunch of idiots come along and turn it into ticky box oppression Olympics.
Thanks. Intersectionality, I gather, has to do with oppression in more than one dimension so to speak.
But CRUICIAL is a totally new word to me. Something to do with cruising perhaps? That is my crux.
‘Intersectionality’ means that angry trans ragers trump everyone else. And HAMAS gets to show up at every rally with no one objecting.
John, it also seems to mean now that white women (or more likely cis-women of all stripes) are the biggest oppressors of everyone, especially if they have the gall to be second-wave feminists. We stomp everyone under our heels for fun and profit. At least, that is the message – and coming from way too many cis-hetero-white women who apparently feel the need to police what the rest of us think.
This doofus also tweeted that “not all women have reproductive systems.”
