Paul said do what you’re told
Sessions says it’s “Biblical” to treat migrants like criminals.
That’s a worthless attempt at justification, of course, because the bible says a lot of things and many of them are evil (and many of them contradict each other). It’s also insulting, because Trump himself is a serial criminal, in far more destructive ways than most immigrants, let alone their children.
Attorney General Jeff Sessions cited the Bible on Thursday in defending the Trump administration’s immigration policies — especially those that result in the separation of families — directing his remarks in particular to “church friends.”
“I would cite you to the Apostle Paul and his clear and wise command in Romans 13 to obey the laws of the government because God has ordained the government for his purposes,” Sessions said. “Orderly and lawful processes are good in themselves. Consistent, fair application of law is in itself a good and moral thing and that protects the weak, it protects the lawful. Our policies that can result in short-term separation of families are not unusual or unjustified.”
Then what’s he doing working for Trump?
Did he just directly link Church and State in contravention of the Constitution?

But as I understand it, separating children from their families is NOT law, it’s policy. They can just stop doing it any time they want. Sarah Huckabee Sanders repeated the lie that this was law, along with the ones that it was Obama what done it and that Democrats refused to sit down with them and sort it out, even though that doesn’t even make any sense.
Hey, wait a minute, doesn’t the bible say something about false witness?
What I find absolutely extraordinary, and something that I have seen mentioned in only one place without particular comment, is that in at least one place where these children are being held, there are large pictures of Donald Trump on the walls, with stirring quotations from ‘The Art of the Deal’, as though Trump were some sort of Big Brother or Central or East Asian dictator… Really, what are we heading for? And why can’t some reporter stand up to that ghastly person Sanders when she says it’s the Democrats at fault, and say it’s the Republicans who hold both the Senate & Congress? It is of course not just the US. There are articles out there on what nice, civilised France is doing to child refugees. And as for Britain, well, I don’t know whether they’ve got to the children yet, but what they are doing to the adults is bad enough…
We were warned. A long time ago.
Life and liberty for all who believe
I must add, Ophelia, that the one place I’ve seen the matter of presidential & big brotherly portraits mentioned is on your blog! But why aren’t the New York Times or Washingtom Post saying something? Or have they?
Paul is, in essence, arguing the divine right of kings. If god disapproved of the actions of the King-Emperor-Conqueror, he would stop them. If the king is a tyrant, that’s god’s punishment. If you’re enslaved by an invader, god wants it that way.
Tim @ 4 and 6 – well I saw it via sources, I think Politico was one and the other I hadn’t heard of. I think I saw there were others picking it up. I got the impression that this is a new – and yes surprising shocking weird twisted etc – thing, so it’s likely that it will be getting attention.
John the Drunkard: Of course, there was very, very little of that sort of blather during the Obama years (especially when the Bundy’s decided to occupy the Malheur Preserve). It’s almost like the religionists only remember the most convenient passages at any given time.
