Pakistan throws Asia Bibi to the wolves
God damn it to hell – Pakistan caved to the murderous fanatics.
Pakistan’s government has been accused of signing the “death warrant” of Asia Bibi after it said it would begin the process of preventing her leaving the country.
Bastards bastards bastards
The ruling Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) administration signed an agreement with the anti-blasphemy group Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP) on Friday night, giving in to many of its demands in the face of massive, countrywide protests calling for Bibi to be put to death.
In a document signed by the PTI’s religious affairs minister and the TLP’s second-in-command, Pir Afzal Qadri, the government promised not to oppose a court petition to reverse Bibi’s release. It also pledged to work in the meantime to put her name on the exit control list (ECL) which would prevent her leaving the country.
“Placing Asia Bibi on the ECL is like signing her death warrant,” said Wilson Chowdhry of the British Pakistani Christian Association. Bibi, a mother of five, remains in the same prison where last month two men tried to kill her, although she has been shifted out of her windowless cell.
…
The TLP has agreed to call off its protests, which saw thousands of Islamists blockade the country’s major motorways, burning cars and lorries and chanting that they were ready to die to protect the honour of the prophet.
Meanwhile, the government has promised to free any TLP workers arrested during the three-day protest. The group has only apologised for the damage it caused, the cost of which one government official estimated at $1.2bn (£900m).
Afzal Qadri told the Guardian “the government has almost accepted our maximum demands” and that if it backtracked “we can come [out on the streets] again”.
I can’t find the words for the depth of my disgust.
All that effort just to murder one person… Really?
Yes. Apparently it’s terribly urgent to kill this one woman age 56. They could leave it to Allah but no, they have to see to it that she’s killed by the state or by them right now.
Allah (= Jahweh = God) is supposed by the faithful to be omniscient and omnipotent, having devised all the laws of nature yet discovered, created space, time and all of the 10^23 stars of the Universe in their 100 billion galaxies, and as well the the 10^24 planets orbiting those stars, assuming our solar system to be typical across the Universe.
The idea that such a Creator could be bothered, let alone offended, by a Christian devotee of his drinking from the same cup as a Muslim devotee of his is itself a massive denigration of God’s mentality, rationality and love for all his creation, as proclaimed down through the ages by prophets and preachers purporting to speak on his behalf. It is nothing short of totally blasphemous in its own right, and is the real insult to the Lord of all the Universe supposedly at the heart of this religious dispute.
Which suggests that it might really be about the social status, power and prestige of all those self-appointed defenders and spokesmen for Allah at present calling for Asia Bibi to be put to death, and a confession on their part, of their own moral and intellectual weakness.
The fact that Asia Bibi is a woman no doubt confirms these men in their self-righteousness. She clearly does not know her place.
I will today be emailing the Prime Minister of Australia, who has proclaimed himself to be a devout Christian, to lodge a protest in the strongest possible terms with the government of Pakistan.
And my wife and I will be doing likewise directly to the Pakistani embassy in Canberra..
Exactly. What kind of HORRIBLE god is it that wants an illiterate farmer beheaded for somehow offending against the worship of that god? Why invent a god like that at all, let alone worship it?
Moreover, I will bring it to the attention of the Pakistani and Australian governments that the execution of Asia Bibi for blasphemy is highly likely to create openings for any who have scores to settle to become copy-cats. It could likely trigger off witch hunts across the length and breadth of Pakistan that would make Salem, Massachusetts, 1692-3 look like a garden party.
Long before I met her, my wife was a student of Arabic and Islamic Studies at the University of Lahore, sponsored by the ANU in Canberra. She tells me that the day she arrived the whole university was the site of a pitched battle between Arab and Pakistani Sunni Muslims involving hundreds of students in an all-in punch-up originating in a dispute over seating in the university’s canteen.
God only knows where the Bibi case will lead.
GODDAMN IT.
