Not all that supreme
Trump is stoked. He thinks that display of entitled white boy rage by Kavanaugh was just the ticket.
President Donald Trump and his aides were ebullient Thursday as Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh defiantly rejected charges of sexual misconduct — a mood that reflected some relief after Trump officials conceded that his accuser, Dr. Christine Blasey Ford, offered a compelling performance in the first half of the day.
Trump and senior officials were impressed by Kavanaugh’s combative defense before the Senate Judiciary Committee, in which the Trump nominee, alternating between fury and tears, called several misconduct charges against him a “calculated and orchestrated political hit” and “national disgrace” that had devastated his life and family.
Minutes after the committee adjourned Thursday evening, Trump tweeted that his nominee “showed America exactly why I nominated him.”
“His testimony was powerful, honest, and riveting,” Trump wrote. “Democrats’ search and destroy strategy is disgraceful and this process has been a total sham and effort to delay, obstruct, and resist. The Senate must vote!”
Yeah. Don’t let those bitches get away with saying you attacked them, even though you did – fight back, get scary-mad, rage about your family as if what’s happening to them were not your fault, and generally act like a selfish privilege violent angry asshole. That’s the kinda guy we want on the Supreme Court!
Watching a nominee for the Supreme Court go full-tilt at a political party, accusing its members of orchestrating a political hit, is unprecedented. Brett Kavanaugh accused Democrats of executing a “calculated and orchestrated political hit." https://t.co/iIE0Klwta5

Judge Brett M. Kavanaugh decided that to have any chance to reach the court, he would have to shed the pretense he was a fair-minded, calm, judicious thinker. He came out in the afternoon filled with venom, screaming at the committee. https://t.co/5yNwwCU5wt

There were reports Trump found Ford’s testimony very believable, so I wondered if he’d actually pull the nomination.
Then I remembered he’s almost always persuaded by what he sees last.
I don’t see much motivation for Ford to lie. What is she going to get out of it? Best case is a ton of grief and a different nominee that’s going to be politically indistinguishable from Kavanaugh.
Of course Kavanaugh’s motive for lying is obvious.
When did Lindsey Graham turn into a complete crazy person?
I don’t think Kavanaugh will get the votes he needs in the Senate. But we’ll see I guess…
Skeletor, it isn’t only that Trump believes what he hears last (which I’m sure he does). But even if he found Ford’s testimony believable, does that translate into caring? I would find that out of character, and if he pulled Kavanaugh’s nomination as a result of it, I would suspect that it was because someone else in the administration made that happen.
Trump doesn’t seem to have a real problem with sexual molesters, unless they are Mexican (or black or Muslim).
Skeletor @1,
Lindsey Graham’s shtick has long been to be the loudest, most obnoxious, foaming-at-the-mouth supporter of 95% of Republican policy and tactics. That allows him to slide by with Republican primary voters even though he breaks ranks the other 5%.
Meanwhile, of course, the national media fawns over him as a reasonable, moderate, thoughtful Republican because of that 5%. “Sure, Lindsey Graham voted to destroy the environment, strip workers of their rights, and blow up the deficit to give the rich more tax cuts, but he did vote against the child slavery law. What an independent-minded maverick!”
Sadly, Ayaan Hirsi Ali just wrote a WSJ Op Ed saying Kavanaugh must be confirmed using the same words “search and destroy” also Maajid Nawaz had a suspect series of Tweets today along the same lines. What the hell is going on?
I thought we cared about women’s rights? Do we not believe them? Do we want to appoint men who hold regressive religious and political beliefs?
