Must be offensive
Oh god oh god oh god.
I never said “give teachers guns” like was stated on Fake News @CNN & @NBC. What I said was to look at the possibility of giving “concealed guns to gun adept teachers with military or special training experience – only the best. 20% of teachers, a lot, would now be able to

….immediately fire back if a savage sicko came to a school with bad intentions. Highly trained teachers would also serve as a deterrent to the cowards that do this. Far more assets at much less cost than guards. A “gun free” school is a magnet for bad people. ATTACKS WOULD END!

….History shows that a school shooting lasts, on average, 3 minutes. It takes police & first responders approximately 5 to 8 minutes to get to site of crime. Highly trained, gun adept, teachers/coaches would solve the problem instantly, before police arrive. GREAT DETERRENT!

I will be strongly pushing Comprehensive Background Checks with an emphasis on Mental Health. Raise age to 21 and end sale of Bump Stocks! Congress is in a mood to finally do something on this issue – I hope!
— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) February 22, 2018
….If a potential “sicko shooter” knows that a school has a large number of very weapons talented teachers (and others) who will be instantly shooting, the sicko will NEVER attack that school. Cowards won’t go there…problem solved. Must be offensive, defense alone won’t work!

What many people don’t understand, or don’t want to understand, is that Wayne, Chris and the folks who work so hard at the @NRA are Great People and Great American Patriots. They love our Country and will do the right thing. MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!

Will be meeting with Lawmakers today at 11:30 A.M. to discuss School Safety. Next week it will be with our Nation’s Governors. It’s been many years of all talk, no action. We’ll get it done!

I can’t imagine him saying the word “adept.” He must be quoting someone in this tweet.
School shooters would now be given the option of “suicide by teacher,” assuming that the teacher is not the first target.
“Comprehensive Background Checks with an emphasis on Mental Health.” So I guess he didn’t even read the law he signed last year that made it easier for “sickos” to obtain guns.
Are all gun free zones magnets for bad people? So then, guns everywhere is the solution. Gotta give the NRA their money’s worth for all those millions they gave him. Maybe that’s why there’s the shout out to ” Wayne, Chris and the folks who work so hard at the @NRA are Great People and Great American Patriots.”
The man is pure genius…….!
Why has nobody thought of this before……..?
One Nobel for peace coming up!
Yeah, sure, a grocery store shooting every day almost, right?
It wouldn’t be suicide by teacher though, because apart from everything else that’s wrong with this explosion of idiocy, how the fuck would a teacher with a handgun “instantly” take out someone with an assault rifle?
And, for this mythical 20% of teachers (the approximate percentage of educators with the green-beret-level combat aptitude needed to successfully engage an AR-15-wielding assailant with a handgun): who’s gonna watch their class while they go into “Rambo-mode”? What kind of person would you have to be to leave behind a room of 25 scared and confused 15-year-olds, in your charge, to rush off into a gun-battle?
“… how the fuck would a teacher with a handgun “instantly” take out someone with an assault rifle?”
You doubt the magic gun ju-ju that will make everything come out all right in the end?
“…who’s gonna watch their class while they go into “Rambo-mode”?”
I hear these 17 year olds can “organize” stuff. Maybe they can lead a singsong or do charades or something.
Okay, so Ophelia’s Teacher Number One with a gun gets taken out in the first round of play, but Kevin’s Teacher Number Two with a gun, upon hearing gunfire, dashes off to hunt down the shooter. Problem solved!
Time to bathe in brain bleach now. Ugh.
“grocery store” iknklast #3
When working in Austin years ago was surprised that the night manager in the local grocery was armed with a gun in open holster.
Rifles are often simply farm equipment. My grandfather had single shot 22 for pests (porcupines eating apples fallen on the ground that he used to feed pigs, farm cat would follow the expedition into the orchard for the reward of a fresh, bloody, warm liver; interesting lesson on farm life for a little boy) and another rifle for hunting. They were never visible except when used.
John Wasson, my dad had a whole case of rifles (and some handguns). He kept the gun cabinet locked. He kept the ammo locked in a separate drawer. We also lived on a farm, and there were times that he had to use his rifles; his handguns he used only for target shooting. He taught me to shoot. He never, ever, ever, ever carried his guns in a holster on his hip, or even had them in his vehicle, unless he was going hunting. And funny, he never got shot. In spite of the fact that he worked for the IRS (in the Murrah building in Oklahoma City. He retired 3 years before it exploded). He never had to shoot anyone to keep himself, his wife, or his children from being shot, either.
If all people owned guns like my father, and your grandfather, owned guns, we’d probably all be mostly fine. There would still be the person who thought that the gun he owned for reasonable purposes would be the easiest way to settle an argument, and there might be people taking pot shots at presidents from the local book depository, but this constant wave of mass murder would come to an end.
President Tweet’s own Trump is quoted at the head of this piece:
To all the doubting Thomases and jeering, joyless Jeffersons around this site, I have only one thing to say: HAVE FAITH..!
That’s the trouble with the modern world: far too little faith…!
THEY’LL GET IT DONE..!
Now where was I..?
” Next week it will be with our Nation’s Governors. It’s been many years of all talk, no action. We’ll get it done!”
Didn’t Florida have an opportunity to “get it done” a couple of days ago which they shot down? It makes me wonder just what “it” is that’s going to get “done.” I’m sure the student survivors who saw their measure defeated by the “action” of Republican state legislators felt they’d been “done.”
If, like me, you have a vague sense that gun rights arguments have gotten weirder and weaker in recent years, I recommend this article by Josh Marshall. In a nutshell: the gun folks got tired of playing defense and tried to come up with a theory why guns aren’t just something we have to put up with because of the 2nd Amendment, but are a positive force for good in every situation, but doing so really put them out on a weird limb.
