AART – Artists Against Rampant Transphobia
It has come to our attention that Liverpool based artist Nina Edge is transphobic and has been spreading her vile bigotry on twitter via the Welsh Streets twitter account. We ask that anyone in the Liverpool art scene takes a stand against this by limiting her involvement in your projects and spreading awareness. Thank you once again for the incredible amount of public support and solidarity we have witnessed since this was discovered. Protect trans women and include them in feminist spaces!
Of course, she hasn’t been doing any such thing. But hey, let’s organize to destroy her anyway!
Feminist spaces? Sure, since anyone is welcome there, including us blokes. But how do I get the feeling that that also means ‘female spaces’? And if it comes at the expense of a critic that also wants that female space, so much the better.
I hate these people. All of them. I hate this whole thing so very much.
I now eye all transwomen with suspicion… GG scoring your own goal.
Funny thing, BKiSA, I know a couple of trans-men, and they just go their own way and do their own thing without feeling the need to beat people up about it. They don’t seem to think that everyone has to do everything a certain way or else. Wonder why that is?
I read through all the comments, all of them, and I still don’t understand WHAT THE HELL SHE IS SUPPOSED TO HAVE DONE!!!
BKiSA I really hate to admit it but unfortunately that’s true for me now as well. I’ve read a couple of people mention the ‘code of honour’ that formerly existed, where we were happy to ‘play along’ in return for some respect and discretion, but now we can’t trust any individual to understand this.
I am a student at LJMU and have had a tutorial with Nina who I’ve met many times. It is my opinion that Nina’s fixation with this single issue constitutes a campaign against trans rights which I find abhorrent. Trans students should not be subjected to her let alone judged critically. She is a dinosaur and young people are safer with out her. Good riddance. As a mature gay student I remember the tactics of homophobes back in the day and Nina is involved in a camppaign that smacks of hatred and gender bias. She isnt missed.
Care to provide any evidence for those criticisms?
Bodi,
Is it Nina’s ‘fixation’ that you find abhorrent, or her supposed ‘campaign against trans rights’ that you find abhorrent?
The only thing we have that links the ‘fixation’ and the ‘campaign’ at the moment is your opinion that one constitutes the other.
I can’t speak to anything that Nina may have said during tutorials, but her Twitter account is unequivocal. She does not preach hate against trans people, quite the opposite. She makes the point that trans people also need protection and safe spaces. She makes the point that there is actual evidence that sex offenders are claiming rans women status to gain access to women’s spaces. Some people keep calling her a liar, but since there actually is evidence…
Now, now, Rob, no muddying the water with pesky evidence. There’s an agenda to keep, facts be damned.
