Do it or I’ll blow the place sky high
The selfish reckless bully says he’ll shut down the government if he doesn’t get what he wants.
“I would be willing to ‘shut down’ government if the Democrats do not give us the votes for Border Security, which includes the Wall!” Trump tweeted. “Must get rid of Lottery, Catch & Release etc. and finally go to system of Immigration based on MERIT! We need great people coming into our Country!”
Trump’s shutdown warning — which he has made before — escalates the stakes ahead of a Sept. 30 government funding deadline, raising the possibility of a political showdown before the Nov. 6 midterm elections that Republican congressional leaders had hoped to avoid. A funding fight also could prove a distraction from Republican efforts in the Senate to confirm Trump Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh by Oct. 1.
Republicans find this unhelpful, and are trying to tell him so without setting off something even more alarming. Meanwhile, the people – oh who cares about them.
Trump has also spoken with several outside political allies who have urged him to strike a tougher line on the border wall as a means of pressuring Democrats and rallying his core voters in November, according to two people briefed on those discussions.
Trump has sought to make immigration a core campaign theme heading into the midterms. He has defended his administration’s “zero tolerance” immigration policy, arguing that some parents who have been separated from their children under this policy are criminals.
Nobody is going to talk Trump into being less of an asshole. Where’s the fun in that? He wants to get all the fun he can out of this gig, and fun is fucking with people’s lives.
Well, Stewart, the American people actually voted for a president who is not only an asshole (hate that word, ARSEhole please) but who told everyone before they voted that he is an arsehole and subsequently stated truthfully that he could go out and shoot someone and NO ONE would do anything about it. And he keeps doing it, and everyone moans and nobody stops him. On the other hand we Brits voted for Theresa May, who murders foreigners because she has no principles and apes anything that she hopes will look like firmness. Before that we had David Cameron who is a fool. We have (or have had) Boris Johnson, who is the egotist’s clown. And creepy Jacob Rees-Mogg piss-be-upon-him. And a very silent Corbyn. They are all arseholes.
some parents who have been separated from their children under this policy are criminals
Yes, and I daresay it’s true of about 0.01% of them, but I don’t suppose that Trump knows or cares which particular people happen to be criminals. Trump’s policy — sorry, in modern inglish I should say The Trump policy — is say anything firmly and it must be believed because order depends on reliability. We really don’t know what to do, do we?
Ah but we didn’t vote him in did we? It was those wicked electoral college assholes and the ~70,000 shitbags in three states that gave said college that ability.
@ Gordon
As an Australian by birth who now lives in Germany, it would normally be “arsehole” for me. too, but FDR was American. It’s all been beggaring belief for a couple of years now and shows no signs of letting up. Though the last few loony tweets show more signs of impending crisis than usual.
On asshole v arsehole – they are national variations. USians can’t spell it “arse” because it would look affected and pretentious to do so, also the spelling would clash with how we pronounce it. Plus it’s not a proper name that belongs to the UK and thus should be pronounced in the local fashion, like Gloucester and Marylebone and St John and Mytholmroyd. As I think I grumbled here recently, the BBC to this day refuses to pronounce “Barack” correctly, when it is after all the guy’s own name. (It’s BuROCK, not BARrick,)
