Black Voters Matter
News from the voter suppression front:
These senior citizens just got on the @BlackVotersMtr bus to go vote, but someone in Jefferson County called the commissioner and said the bus didn’t have the proper license to drive people to the polls. The seniors, who were fired up to vote, won’t be casting ballots today. pic.twitter.com/vI93pU85Ln

They don’t even pretend anymore, do they? Thanks to the Supreme Court deciding that the Voting Rights Act wasn’t needed, since it was actually doing some good…
I think someone needs to clean all the white folks out of the south, bus them to the Midwest to hunker in with the other right wing white folks, and the rest of us all need to leave for somewhere sane. I’m just not sure where that is anymore.
Well, sure they do:
See? Maybe they were going to take the seniors to vote, or maybe they were going to murder all of them on the bus and dump their bodies somewhere. You can’t be too safe, now can you? Best to not let them go.
Now that is some grade-A pretending!
No.
No.
No!
There are lots of perfectly fine white folks in the south. No need to bus them anywhere. And if you’re just bussing the bad ones out, there are plenty of good people in the Midwest that don’t want them.
Just bus them away from the polls during election season, and we’ll be fine.
I can see how that bus would look terrifying if you’re a racist shit.
They’re pretending to the exact degree that their own people consider plausible. Sadly, those people are blatantly racist hypocrites.
“…the bus didn’t have the proper license to drive people to the polls.” Dafuq? So everyone that was on that bus suddenly lost their right to vote???
No vote – no civil cooperation. Those denied their vote in a democracy have had their status reduced to that of a slave. They are under no moral authority to respect the values, laws or institutions. They are involuntary foreigners in their own country.
When you visit a foreign country you obey their rules. If you don’t like the rules stay away and if you want to make a point send a strongly worded communication to their ambassador explaining why you’d never step foot in their shithole.
But if you are effectively put in the situation whereby you are essentially an internal alien then you are morally entitled to engage in uncivil disobedience.
Shop lifting is against the law? Oh I don’t remember voting for that! That would be my attitude and the question needs to be put over and over to the Trumpturds – why other than naked fear should black people give two fucks about the law, any law, if they are denied the right to participate.
Is the vote a fucking luxury in the so called land of the free?
I wish lefties, by which nowadays I guess I mean anyone who isn’t a far right Trumper type would put aside their differences, accept we’re in a fucking emergency (this goes for UK too. We have the Brexit fiasco to deal with, at some level it’s all connected. e.g. Bannon) and concentrate on winning the war. Which requires recognising a war is under way to start.
Hope this is okay, I delete most of my potential comments as they can be a bit strong. But dammit I’m in a hurry, running late and this time I’m posting.
Maybe not so much put aside their differences, but recognize that they aren’t going to get the perfect candidate. For instance, most of the people I know that didn’t vote for Hillary agreed with her on a lot of things (most of them are less liberal than I am, and had little problem with her ardent support for capitalism), but one thing…and that could be something very minor…and they used that as an excuse for rejecting her and voting third party, or not voting at all.
I was talking to a friend last night who is almost as liberal as I am, and he didn’t vote for Hillary. Why? Because she clearly wanted power. I said this to him: Every president we have ever had has wanted power. That’s one of the key requisites for running. It’s only because Hillary is a woman that you see that as a reason to not vote for her. To my surprise, he agreed. I think he learned a little something last night. I wish each and every one of us could sit down and talk to each and every one of those who put out such excuses, and help them see the importance of not being so righteous right now (or actually, make them see that the really righteous thing is to get the current crop of corrupt, unsympathetic, sneering, raging free market fundamentalists out of office, and then try to work on making the system “perfect”).
Skeletor, I live in the Midwest, and I don’t want them. But then, I don’t want to live in the Midwest, either. I am in the 48th year of trying to get out of here, and still having problems getting everything to line up. Like, being a 58 year old woman means I am too young to retire and too old to get hired (especially in a field where the only jobs that seem to be currently available are adjunct, and they come without insurance, which as a chronic asthmatic, I cannot be without).
Still, I believe that part of the problem is that our country is way too large to be a democracy, because for a democracy to work you must care about your other countrymen. Even if we didn’t have the problem of selfishness and entitlement that seems to be infecting us now, it is difficult to care about 300 million people, most of whom do not live around you. I feel strongly that this country should be broken into manageable size bits, but I am afraid I am living in one of the bits that would be intolerable if it were given full self government without the US Constitution to control it somewhat. So I would want to leave that bit just before the division occurred.
We may be too far gone now, though. I’m not sure there are very many “bits” of our country that aren’t filled with total a**holes.
I couldn’t agree more. It could be made a lot better for the benefit of most and still be far from perfect.
