Art history
That photo of Merkel facing down Defiant Toddler Trump? It is an art history lesson.
Ok, because I'm feeling pedantic as fuck, I need to point out that this photo does not look like a Renaissance painting. It looks like a Baroque painting. pic.twitter.com/LvlvcSZjmu

How so?
This is a Renaissance Painting. The subjects are evenly spaced across the canvas, equidistant to the viewer as if on a stage. The postures are quite mannered instead of natural. This is Primavera by Botticelli btw. pic.twitter.com/MmMug6A0tT

Ah yes, so they are – although I will say, advertisers still pose women with their feet pointed like that.
Now here is a Baroque piece. The subjects are positioned naturally in the room, some have their backs to viewer, and postures reflect energy between the subjects. This is Caravaggio btw, a favorite of mine. pic.twitter.com/Gao6qL5xXA

We’ve learned something. Thank you Palle Hofstein.
I note that the Renaissance has alot more nudity.
@1, and good variety in body shape.
Chigau, I think we can be glad there was no nudity in that photograph. Trump and nude are two things that are about as horrifying as I can think of (actually, nude isn’t necessarily horrifying, but when paired with Trump…arrgh.)
A great photo: set to become a classic. John Bolton looks like a stunned mullet. He has just heard something totally beyond his comprehension. Because Merkel has just asked a couple of very hard questions of Trump: “what would it take to get you to change your mind?
“And while you’re at it, Donald: what is the square root of minus 1?”
I think I’ve discovered the real inspiration for the photo.
@#5:
Very good.
