Mr Petulant plans a new game
Now the idiot in the White House wants a fight with Iran. Yes that should work out well.
President Trump plans to announce next week that he will “decertify” the international nuclear deal with Iran, saying it is not in the national interest of the United States and kicking the issue to a reluctant Congress, people briefed on an emerging White House strategy for Iran said Thursday.
The move would mark the first step in a process that could eventually result in the resumption of U.S. sanctions against Iran, which would blow up a deal limiting Iran’s nuclear activities that the country reached in 2015 with the U.S. and five other nations.
Of course the five other nations will have something to say about that. By the time Trump is through the US will have all the influence of Liechstenstein.
Under what is described as a tougher and more comprehensive approach, Trump would open the door to modifying the landmark 2015 agreement he has repeatedly bashed as a raw deal for the United States.
Translation: Trump plans to throw all his toys out of the pram, hopes for three scoops of ice cream as his reward.
I think it very unlikely that the other five countries involved will the support he US on this issue, at least at this time. It was a hard won agreement that all parties wanted. Iran appears to have been living up to it’s end of the bargain. The US abandoning the agreement in what amounts to a fit of pique is going to make life much harder for the US in the future. Quite probably on issues of real importance to it.
“an emerging White House strategy for Iran”
There someone goes again, dignifying Trump’s current whim with underserved terms like “strategy.” Making things up as you go along isn’t even a PLAN, let alone a strategy. Undoing the work of a hated predecessor is not a strategy, it is a vendetta. Next to Trump, Leeroy Jenkins is a fucking genius.
YNNB, I suspect the media has no clue how to report on Trump. They are so used to analysis and political strategy that they keep trying to figure out how to report on him without saying the things that it’s been accepted (in the last couple decades) that the press doesn’t say: he’s a liar, a cheat, ignorant, bigoted, shallow, and not qualified for the job. Those last two things at least (and probably ignorant) are things they could have said about Reagan; they did not. They did not call Bush 43 a liar, even though he often did make what appeared to be deliberate misstatements of fact. They are merely continuing a policy of politically polite doublespeak. The apparent inability of the press to call presidents out on their culpability and lack of integrity is probably quite strained with Trump, so they pretend it’s just business as usual.
Trump isn’t the first time we seen high level chicanery in the highest office, but it is the most blatant and ridiculous case. And Trump is unable to keep up even the merest pretense that he has anything but contempt for us ordinary earthlings who populate the country he is despoiling.
That agreement may not be exactly what Trump wants. That tends to be the case with international diplomacy. It did, though, take several powerful countries and many good brains to achieve it.
We know that he lacks the latter. By the time he gets there he may not have the former if only because at some stage he is going to run out of willing idiots to hire, abuse and then fire in a matter of months.
But….but…but…Trump has the best brain! He has a very good brain, he said so himself. He knows stuff…stuff no one else knows.
