Mens sana in corpore sano
Surprise Fact Department: the US Defense Department spends 84 million bucks a year on Viagra & its cousins.
In the DoD system, which dispensed eight types of ED meds in 2014, Viagra, added to the DoD formulary in 2012, tops the list for most popular: Of the 1.18 million prescriptions, 905,083 were for Viagra, at a cost of $41.6 million.
Cialis ranked second, with 185,841 prescriptions totaling $22.82 million.
Revatio — one of the costliest ED medications in the DoD formulary — was the least frequently prescribed: 1,699 prescriptions in 2014 for a total cost of $2.24 million, according to DHA.
Worth every penny.
Funny how no one is talking about removing federal funding for Viagra, innit?
Isn’t that just the strangest thing?
But, but… without erections, Our Fighting Men (TM) couldn’t work up any interest in killin’ anymore! We’d be defenseless against the horribly tumescent Mooslim hordes! America’s gotta stand tall to stand proud!
Safeguard the integrity of American erections and protect them from Russian interference!
…and yet some hormones for trans people is a tremendous expense.
What? Revatio costs $1318.42 for a single prescription? That is one Hell of an expensive stiffy.
Lol Sackbut.
Blood Knight – yes, that was my not too subtle point.
It’s actually all horribly self-consistent as an ideology. Men’s erections are sacrosanct and must be preserved at all costs – can’t be a man without a good solid erection. Women must have babies (whether they want to or not), and sex with men with good solid erections (whether they want to or not) that leave them in satisfied awe (saved from being lesbians) – because you can’t be a real woman unless you have straight sex and babies. Trans people are just icky and wrong because it’s hard to say whether they are man or woman. If they look, think and act like the opposite sex to you, and you have sex with them, it might make you gay. Really confusing if you liked it…
With variations you can use this basic string of thought to justify everything from how women, gay and trans people are treated, to gun control, behaviour toward foreigners etc etc. Hell, once you’ve got used to treating other people with disrespect and contempt it’s easy to expand that to poor and sick people as well. Chances are some of them are only women, gay or trans anyway, so no biggie.
[spits on ground]
I would like to see someone create a variation on the photo of raising the flag at Iwo Jima to celebrate the heroic use of ED medication in the US military.
Rob, re “– can’t be a man without a good solid erection.
Are you trying to ruin me one comment at a time? First it’s my late mother’s questionable gender (Ouija board failed, btw), now this statement.
What did I ever do to you? :-)
AoS – me? Me!
I wish we could share a beer. It would be interesting to see who made the other snort it out their nose first…
“defenseless against the horribly tumescent Mooslim hordes!”
Not to worry. Not so tumescent. I remember reading somewhere that the highest per capita consumption of viagra and the like, as well as testosterone medications, is in Saudi Arabia.
Quixote, that reminds me of one of my favourite old jokes: Why are camels called ships of the desert? Because they’re full of Arab semen.
Taxi!
