“Now therefore kill every male among the little ones, and kill every woman that hath known man by lying with him. But all the women children, that have not known a man by lying with him, keep alive for yourselves.”
But don’t be like those new atheists who think believers are expected to take this stuff literally – I mean, where do you even find a Midianite nowadays? It’s more your mythopoetic type truth the Bible’s getting at here.
What about the instructions for selling slaves, or when Jesus got mad at a fig tree and killed it for not carrying fruit out of season? Whenever I see bible quotes on posters, church signs or as graffiti, I wonder why they never use some of these. Just today I saw a ‘more than 300 inspirational bible quotes!’ calendar for 2018, and it was all about uplifting bromides, while rather unfairly ignoring the rest of the book.
“Now behold, I have two daughters who have not had relations with man; please let me bring them out to you, and do to them whatever you like; only do nothing to these men, inasmuch as they have come under the shelter of my roof.”
Judges 19:24 is almost the same, you cannot say it often enough that women can used, but men cannot…
“Look, here is my virgin daughter, and his concubine. I will bring them out to you now, and you can use them and do to them whatever you wish. But as for this man, don’t do such an outrageous thing.”
5 And when thou prayest, thou shalt not be as the hypocrites [are]: for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and in the corners of the streets, that they may be seen of men. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward.
6 But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy Father which is in secret; and thy Father which seeth in secret shall reward thee openly.
7 But when ye pray, use not vain repetitions, as the heathen [do]: for they think that they shall be heard for their much speaking.
To ‘synagogues and corners of streets’ we should add football games, and even coffee cups.
He that curseth his father or his mother shall surely be put to death.
2 Kings 2:24
And he turned back, and looked on them, and cursed them in the name of the Lord. And there came forth two she bears out of the wood, and tare forty and two children of them.
Christmas is for kids. I’m thinking something like Psalm 137:9
“Happy is the one who seizes your infants
and dashes them against the rocks.”
Sweet.
Numbers 31: 17-18 is particularly sweet:
“Now therefore kill every male among the little ones, and kill every woman that hath known man by lying with him. But all the women children, that have not known a man by lying with him, keep alive for yourselves.”

@John
But that one is a bit different – it is not nasty in itself, it only shows hypocrisy of religious people today.
Exodus 21.17:
