A different relationship
In fact Trump is so manic that he’s turned himself inside out.
Mr. Trump told reporters after the calls that the deal may signal a new era of bipartisanship. “I think we will have a different relationship than we’ve been watching over the last number of years. I hope so,” he said. “I think that’s a great thing for our country. And I think that’s what the people of the United States want to see. They want to see some dialogue. They want to see coming together to an extent.”
Oh. Really? That’s what the people of the United States want to see? I thought they wanted to see lots and lots of name-calling and wild accusations. I thought they wanted to see non-stop “Pocahontas” and “Crooked Hillary” and “Cryin’ Chuck” and “Crazy Bernie” and “Lyin’ Ted” and “Little Marco.”
Still, I’m not complaining. Mocking, yes, but not complaining.
This will last only until someone in his newfound posse of friends pisses him off. I’d be amazed if this is even a week.
Sounds like some strange experiment in particle physics has produced an anti-Trump; perhaps a through the high speed collision of plutonium, dark matter, misogyny and a gold-plated toilet. If this is the case, the Trump and anti-Trump must be kept apart at all costs lest they annihilate each other with who knows what consequences.
Totally OT – I am looking for the right word –
What is the proper term for an ideology that puts human emotions, feelings, empathy, and the human condition above cold scientific facts and material conditions, which may threaten the above values? A consequence of this ideology is that humanity becomes the center of the universe and anything that may even remotely threaten these values are dismissed out of hand as humanistically incorrect. Apologies for bringing this up here if it is the wrong place.
Kazemi, I believe the word you’re looking for is “religion.”
I gather the Dump’s “management style” (in the loosest sense of the term) is to pit everybody against everybody and then be the only source of favors in the ensuing chaos.
I think that’s all we’re seeing here.
The Dems are already fighting in the last ditch. Now the Repubs realize they don’t have any friends either. Ideally, for the Dump, the insecurity will make everybody easier prey.
Sam, quite true. The secular religion of humanism where introspection, conscience, subjectivity, emotions, empathy are forms of worship, and where the worshiped deity is this amorphous blob called humanity. Anything that may question the primacy of the deity is evil, in particular any science, socioeconomic facts, or transhumanism that questions the deity and creates doubt in its omnipotence and benevolence must be stamped out.
The religion of humanism. However this would be very confusing to the uninitiate as this religion has no supernatural component, no holy book, afterlife, etc. which is usually associated with a religion. A big part of its adherents are secular. In fact humanism can appear to be very pro-science and pro-reason on the surface, as long as the findings do not question the religion and are not taken to their logical limits.
I wonder how this religion is categorized or referred to in the world of philosophy?
Gee, Kazemi, what’s your point? Because you didn’t describe humanism (though perhaps a small subset of humanism). You described a straw man humanism, a specter that is thrown out there by the religious to make a false equivalency. I do not call myself a humanist, for various reasons, but I know many humanists, I have read the humanist works, and I can tell you, your description is fallacious.
Also, Kazemi, as you said, entirely off topic. I hesitated a long time before approving your first comment, because it’s so random in the context of this post…but in the end I did. However, if you really want to talk about humanism, it would help if you waited until there’s a post on which that discussion would be relevant.
iknklat, yes, I did not mean to describe classic humanism as a religion. My point was a new movement that puts human emotions ahead of facts and science, and uses that as a political tool to dominate the discourse and gain power. So calling this ideology the religion of humanism is incorrect. This insidious ideology has roots in naive humanism and many other systems of thought, such as communism/fascism. And can easily camouflage itself as something noble. It is permeating and often goes unrecognized, and taken as unquestioned values and the truth. Just like a religion would. An example of its impact would be political correctness, language correctness, and the no-platforming movement. I am looking for the proper terminology and categorization.
