You don’t get points for that!
Obama points out that Republicans don’t get points for disavowing Trump at this late date, after enabling him and all his horrors for months.
They know better, a lot of these folks who ran, and they didn’t say anything, so they don’t get credit for, at the very last minute, when finally they guy that they nominated and they endorsed and they support is caught on tape saying things that no decent person would even think, much less say, much less brag about, much less brag about or joke about, much less act on, you can’t wait until that finally happens and then say, ‘Oh, that’s too much! That’s enough!’ and think that somehow you are showing any kind of leadership and deserve to be elected to the United States Senate! You don’t get points for that!
A lot of people thought Trump would go down fast, once Jeb! Bush hired the supposed best oppo researcher in the business.
Certainly there was plenty potent bad news about DJT in circulation a year ago – why didn’t Jeb! find/use it?
My only surviving hypothesis so far: no Republican dared call out such nastiness while Roger Ailes remained in power at the False Noise Network.
The US political problem remains one of system, not of persons.
Pierce:
“A lot of people thought Trump would go down fast….”
Well, a lot of people were wrong weren’t they?
Instead of a quick nosedive into the dirt, it has turned into a long, drawn out spiral into the self-same dirt
BUT Trump at this stage might entertain the idea that there is still a conceivable hope of a chance of a possibility that perhaps the Trump campaign might just recover from Trump.
Himself.
In which case there can be not the slightest hope of a chance of a possibility that perhaps the Republican Party will.
Too far into the crossing to switch horses…

Just got to the protester at around 8:00, and, my word it’s a nice change to see the speaker address them with politeness and good humour, rather than telling the crowd to beat the crap out of them.

It always amazes me what a great public speaker Obama is. Also, that line about why you get married. So good on many levels.
I loved the “She was pretty good!” that led into the line about why you get married – the droll understatement for effect.
