The safety and privacy of the men
So Roosh V canceled the whole thing, which seems to confirm what lots of people said, that the whole thing was just a scam to draw attention.
The founder of a group who has advocated legalising rape on private premises has cancelled plans for meetings following a widespread outcry.
Roosh V, whose real name is Daryush Valizadeh, 36, is the founder of Return Of Kings, a group for aspiring self-described “neo-masculinists”.
…
Mr Valizadeh made the announcement on his website: “I can no longer guarantee the safety or privacy of the men who want to attend on February 6, especially since most of the meet-ups can not be made private in time. While I can’t stop men who want to continue meeting in private groups, there will be no official Return Of Kings meet-ups. The listing page has been scrubbed of all locations. I apologize to all the supporters who are let down by my decision.”
That’s just fatuous, because what did he think would happen? He jumped up and down shouting about what he was going to do, and got the desired reaction. It’s silly to pretend he wasn’t expecting it. He can no longer guarantee the privacy of the thing he took pains to publicize. Right.
But hey, I should just shut up about the whole thing because things are worse in Mogadishu.
I guess the ‘masculinists’ and libertarians have the same utopia…Somalia.
I don’t like to sound like a conspiracy theorist, but this might have been what he planned all along. Get a reaction (even a small, muted one would work), and then pull out to “protect” the men from the dangerous feminists. He would almost certainly believe he has proved his point, although I’m not convinced. Nothing I’ve seen has suggested they were in danger of much more than being mocked, and maybe yelled at. Could it be they are “girlie-men”? To use their term – one I despise, and apologize for here.
Oh, that’s what I think – that it was what he planned all along. See first sentence of post. It’s pretty transparent.
Maybe he just wanted the chance to make the sarcastic joke about his concern for the safety and privacy of the men he’d invited.
Dave Futrelle, the author of the blog We Hunted the Mammoth, did an effective write-up on Roosh for the International Business Times: http://www.ibtimes.co.uk/daryush-valizadeh-leading-new-barbarians-believe-resistance-sex-ok-1541990
Neo-masculinists? We’re still cleaning up after paleo-masculinists. Shit.
I’d have thought what he really wanted was for the event to be banned. That way it could be trotted out as an example of double standards when a female or gay event was allowed to take place.
This seems a somewhat double edged sword to me. Yes it claims that his mob are just as victimised as his opponents; but at the same time cuts the legs off the argument that other groups were over-reacting to a bit of ‘banter’.
Incidentally, ‘banter’ must be a candidate for most misused word in the English language. Everybody knows what it really means; but it apparently it can also stretch to include stuff that leaves hate speech in its dust and would have Hitler looking a bit embarrassed if used in his presence.
