“She got what she deserved”
Never mind. Apparently the “source” is a “satire” site although I’m damned if I can find any confirmation of that. I was misled by the fact that it cited Breitbart – not because Breitbart is reliable but because it doesn’t consider itself satire.
Oh god oh god oh god.
Sarah Palin, former governor of Alaska, commented on the tragedy in her own, provocative style, saying that “it’s no use trying to teach people that pacifism doesn’t work when you have things like these happening almost every day. A woman who had a family, a husband and two young children, was shot dead in the middle of the street like a beggar. Who should we be upset with? The murderer for being insane enough to do something like this or the woman herself, for failing to take precautions to save her own life?”
“I know I’m going to cause a lot of different comments by saying this, but I’m furious with that late, stupid woman,” Palin told Breitbart News. “I know she was a lefty and I know that means she was against guns, but if she were able to somehow miraculously come back to life now, what do you think she’d say about it? Do you think she’d change her mind about guns? I bet she would. She’d never leave the house without a 12-gauge shotgun by her side. And that’s why I’ve made a habit of doing that, as well.”
“But no, she had to go off and try to prove a point,” she added. “And now what? Her children will be motherless and her husband a widower. As a matter of fact, you know something? That woman had a million opportunities to bring along protection. And she failed to do that. And now she’s dead. So you know what? She got what she deserved, if you ask me.”
I have no words.
This is from a parody site. Palin didn’t say it.
@ Lady Mondegreen What a fucking relief.
Saw that elsewhere. Clearly fake.
Yeah, she’s British and they have pretty harsh gun laws by default so that’d’ve been pretty absurd.
Like Palin understands context? I was fooled, having only seen some disembodied quotes.
” She’d never leave the house without a 12-gauge shotgun by her side. And that’s why I’ve made a habit of doing that, as well.”
Sarah, a 12-gauge is just kid stuff. For my part, I go everywhere tooled up with no less than a bazooka.
Or two.
Plus ammo of course.
I gotta confess I found this oddly plausible. Not sure if I would have prior to the last few months or so. But summer 2016, so much crazy about, it’s like it’s a triangulation problem or something. As in: okay, it’s out there. But are we talking six AU (like plenty it turned out, yeah, someone actually said), or twenty? Tough time to do satire, I’d think, when reality keeps outdoing you.
(… speaking of:

).
(Working theory: exposure to contemporary gunpowders causes innumeracy?)
Well fuck. Apologies. I did wonder about it afterward, when out in the wild with only a muddy dog and no internet..picturing people waving Snopes at me and jeering. At the time I thought the Breitbart citation meant they’d really seen it.
I wish sites that aren’t as well known as The Onion wouldn’t do this crap.
shit. Thank you Lady M. The thing is that of course I believed it was Palin’s true comment b/c it is exactly the kind of thing she would say. Because she an ignorant screecher of ignorance.
Apparently it bills itself as a “hybrid news/satire” website, with a combination of satire and actual news. They claim to label “totally real news” with the hashtag #NNTS. It took some poking around to find that information, though, and that hashtag is not exactly obvious in its meaning.
Seems like a pretty shitty thing to do.
It does.
But let’s face it, so definitely credible….
Anyway, it’s a win, win. Sarah Palin is probably grateful for the publicity. And Truth has triumphed.
As it should.
;-)
That you saw this and thought it could be true is indicative of the quality of political discourse in the US right now.
