Mr. Trump seemed surprised by the scope
When President Pussygrabber met with Obama last week he was surprised to learn that the job is an actual job, with a large amount of hard work involved. His surprise was apparently not of the pleased and delighted variety. Talking Points Memo quotes the WSJ:
During their private White House meeting on Thursday, Mr. Obama walked his successor through the duties of running the country, and Mr. Trump seemed surprised by the scope, said people familiar with the meeting. Trump aides were described by those people as unaware that the entire presidential staff working in the West Wing had to be replaced at the end of Mr. Obama’s term.
After meeting with Mr. Trump, the only person to be elected president without having held a government or military position, Mr. Obama realized the Republican needs more guidance. He plans to spend more time with his successor than presidents typically do, people familiar with the matter said.
Slightly irresponsible to go for the job without finding out what it entails, isn’t it.
That’s what Trump voters wanted – an outsider with no government experience. Because that’s exactly who you’d hire to run a business, right? And government is much more complicated than running a business, in spite of all these wanta-be businessmen who go on and on about how well they can run a business.
I was thinking yesterday (I do that occasionally, but then, I’m not the President-elect). Bush 43 also had multiple bankruptcies, was bailed out by rich friends (and daddy), and butchered the English language. I think the Republicans have found their magic formula. McCain and Romney were just too darn competent.
A red-neck relative of mine would repeat the mantra “the country should be run like a business”. Yes, of course, it’s exactly like running a small builder’s, as his was, which used several false names to dodge taxes.
I can see Obama kept on as the real President, with Trump as the figurehead…
I’d love that, but I fear what we will get is Pence as Real President.
Pence? Maybe. Even worse, Steve Bannon…
Donald will simply dump the work on anyone who will do it for him. The thing is, when he refuses to pay them, these men will quit.
Pence doesn’t need to be paid by him.
Please, Anat, let people make jokes sometimes? Not everything has to be precise. Thanks.
iknklast: I’d say it’s more likely that Trump will clear out as many of his non-elected subordinates as he can go through during the first few months in office. Remember, he built most of his post-crash career off the phrase “You’re fired”, because he enjoys having power over people. This is a man who went through, what, 4 campaign chiefs? I expect he’ll look to oust someone every time he has a bad day–and he’s going to have a lot of bad days, because he’s grotesquely unqualified for the office. His administration is going to be pure chaos; that’s actually our best bet for minimizing the damage in the next two years.
